Chir blinked with confusion when Urudith huffed and walked away without providing an answer. Was it...not? Even from his place on the ground, the boy tilted his head, not unlike a dog. He watched as S'far trotted after the treating dragon and puzzled the reaction to himself with a deep frown. The rider's laugh, at least, helped unlock some of the anxiety the young hunter felt over the situation, though it returned rather quickly when he overheard himself being called dumb.
It was a frequent enough occurrence that the insult shouldn't burn as it did. Even still, Chir looked away. He didn't need to observe himself being degraded. Better to focus on his sloppy bandage. Already, it was slipping. Frustrated, he tucked his elbow against it as he was already weary of holding his hand there.
Upon S'far's return, Chir hunched his shoulders. While he understood the rider's instructions well enough, the boy found himself looking over at the grouchy dragon instead. I'm sorry I insulted you. I didn't realize. I...don't know anything about dragons. Genuine with his remorse, Chir saw no reason to prostrate himself in front of the dragon when he still had yet to answer his rider.
I do understand, he thought as he nodded, hoping Urudith may still change his mind. Admittedly, it was a relief to have someone to "talk" to that could understand him. Even for the short term. You don't have to take me anywhere. Once I get bandaged, I can go back to the Hold. I'll manage. Perhaps Urudith would think more favorably towards him if he wasn't a burden to carry over grand distances to some Weyr like he was downed game. Why he wanted a dragon of all creatures not to think less of him was beyond him. But it would be nice to have at least one being know that he wasn't as stupid as everyone believed.
