Ronarth was initially confused by the sudden shift of topic. It creeled questioningly and looked towards Larrikith as she wheeled about, his own flight level and evenly-paced, albeit swift. As the moments passed, he realized what she meant. They were gossiping! Oh, Grith... Ronarth said, thinking about the silly but charming green as he sailed along.
The bronze's sadness was tangible. I like her, but she does not like me he explained quietly to Larrikith. Grith reminded Ronarth much of himself. She was playful and energetic. Of course, his bronze-dragon pride didn't allow him to speak of it directly, but in the back of his mind Ronarth also knew that he was simple. He and Grith should have gotten along. She should have helped him bridge the color-gap, which never mattered much to Ronarth. Instead, he was rejected for that very reason.
I do not understand he said finally, his words still aimed at Larrikith. I do not mind that Grith is a green. But she minds me because I am a bronze. Because she thinks bronzes dislike greens. I do not know what to do about it, either he said wistfully. He dropped one wing and dove, banking sharply in one direction and making a close pass by Grith. He bugled a greeting to her, as if testing to see if she would be more receptive to him this time.
