Sure enough, the hatching was finally picking up. No sooner had the stragglers from the last group Impressed than a quartet of eggs burst all at once. Two browns, a blue, and one more green came tumbling out of their shells. Brown 4 , a small, chubby baby bonked his head on another egg, tipping it over onto its side. Shaking his head, somewhat dazed, he blinked around at the crowd and plopped back onto the sands for several minutes.
Green 12 hatched with her back to the crowd over near Iliyith and Rhezalth. Hungry, and seeing movement, she stalked, then pounced, biting the swishing tail in front of her none too gently. The reproachful (and certainly surprised) rebuke from the attacked parent startled her into letting go. She whined and was turned around as she complained, back towards the candidates and food.
Brown 3 and Blue 6 had found their mates during the distraction, and Eggs #21 and #28 had hatched two more sturdy looking blues. Blue 7 was the bigger of the two, but only by a little. He studied the candidates from a distance while Blue 8 made his way over more directly.
A sudden screech fromGreen 12 echoed through the cavern as she charged towards him and the boy he was approaching. She plowed through a few candidates who weren’t quick enough to get out of her way, but her focus was on Blue 8 . That was her boy! He could choose anyone else, but not hers! Enraged, she barreled into the blue, knocking him over--and the boy as well.
She fought fiercely, tearing at his wings and clawing at his belly, not even noticing that their claws were also cutting up the boy beneath them as they scrabbled.Blue 7 saw a chance and darted over to his mate, blocking him from the brawl and physically pushing him further away. The two dragonets suddenly separated, Blue 8’s wings dragging on the sands as he howled pathetically over the boy, then blinked between. Her opponent gone, the green finally noticed the still form on the sands. Nudging him gently, then more desperately, she shrieked and threatened. But he was still limp. Keening terribly, she also flashed between.
