Narinoa had been conflicted for weeks leading up to this moment. He was determined to Impress but that also meant he had to leave Ista in order to have the best chance of that happening. He had been running the dragonhealing program out of Ista and while he had a co-leader, Narinoa felt guilty leaving it all to him while he kept vanishing to try his luck at getting a dragon. And what if he succeeded? He'd be gone for an entire year! But on the other hand, there had been a lot of interest in learning the nearly lost form of healing so he wouldn't truly be missed now. Besides, if he Impressed at Benden, he could stay in that Weyr and help further build up the dragonhealers when his weyrling lessons started to ease up.
So there he was in Benden, nerves setting in as he reminded himself his time was quickly running out. Thanks to the asshole killing goldriders he had even less clutches to Stand at now. He may have his hesitations with Standing or not due to his desire to help teach others to help dragons, but Narinoa couldn't deny how much he wanted a dragon of his own. Standing before the mighty eggs only reaffirmed that.
He could tell Mizeath was uneasy with them being there and he couldn't blame her with how everything was lately and how some previous Touchings and Hatchings had gone. He longed to go over and soothe her like he would have if it was Erebuth or one of his siblings. But this was a much older and larger gold dragon and she probably didn't need or want to be coddled by a strange boy. Still, when she glanced in his direction, Narinoa gave her a nod and hoped it conveyed how much he respected her and her clutch.
When they were set free, Narinoa made his way to the middle, deciding he could work his way out. He walked by a few eggs, smiling when he saw others latch onto them, before finding his goal and resting his palm on it.
