Quinvalis hung back as best as he could, though Zelana was in his group and he kept stealing glances at her to see if she would try to pester him again. Hopefully she would be too focused on her first Touching to pay him any attention and he could sneak out before she grabbed him to discuss their reactions or something. He was still terrified to be back on the Sands but Malvayth was his friend and her words of encouragement—and that strange kid’s insistence he not give up—had made him come back. Aradissicath’s Hatching went smoothly but that also could have been because he wasn’t there to create the bad luck.
He managed a small smile and wave to Malvayth and Cazan as he passed them despite his stomach feeling like it was turning inside out. As long as he didn’t vomit, Quinvalis was fine with the inner turmoil. Besides, this was the easy part. He only had to Touch a few eggs, be told he was worthless or not, and then go back to his little shared room and hide in bed for the rest of the day. The hard part was still roughly a week away. He could do this part.
So he did. With a deep inhale and slow exhale, Quinvalis finally moved to an egg that everyone else had ignored. He didn’t know why that egg had been overlooked but he felt connected to it since he tried his best to blend in and not be noticed as well. “Hi. I hope I’m not bothering you,” he whispered as he placed his hand on the warm shell, bracing for whatever was about to hit him.
