It felt odd walking into the Fort Hatching Grounds that day for several reasons. The most important one being that B’kit, while healing, was still in rough shape alongside sweet Erebuth. Mylorah would have been happy spending all of her time keeping the pair company but she had a feeling J’shom wouldn’t appreciate her presence after a certain point and she knew she had obligations elsewhere. Like the Touching.
Another reason it was weird was because it was for her brother’s mate’s dragon’s first clutch. She was excited for Malvayth—and thought the dragon to be adorable with her regal pose and demure greeting—but Cazan’s accidental Impression made it all seem like an odd dream at times. Then there was the way she had told Fediletch that she would Stand with him despite her misgivings about having to become a healer of sorts if she did Impress. But she adored that boy and couldn’t make him sad and she wanted to support Cazan. Besides, Standing also meant she could protect Zoremet. She had been so anxious sitting in the crowd, watching him, hoping he paid enough attention to keep himself safe. Now she would be able to watch over him if needed.
But this was just the Touching. She was getting ahead of herself and needed to focus on the little but still just as important clutch. It really was hard not to be in a good mood despite her hummingbird’s injury thanks to another glance at Malvayth. She was so proud of her clutch—her prizes from what T’ryn explained. If she had to Impress in Fort, Mylorah would be fine with it being to one of Malvayth’s brood.
Since there were a few girls in her group, Mylorah figured she could wait to go to the gold. She honestly didn’t care which colour she Impressed to while she knew some girls only had their hopes pinned on the gold. So she wandered away from the gold and went to an egg she knew Malvayth would have lovingly placed just as much as she had done with the gold. Without hesitation, she rested her palm on the surface and closed her eyes as she opened up for the hopeful connection.
Egg 9, please!
