Madiquel took in a quick, sharp breath at the prospect of being – quite literally – whisked away by D’hys and then flushed crimson. Her pounding heart, and her inability to breathe, was telling her quite firmly that if she – they – went that route, she would definitely be dead before he’d finished scooping her. She was saved from stammering out why that wasn’t needed, by his offer for dancing instead. Her eyes grew wide as she stared up at D’hys in wonder, absolutely enchanted. And he’d called her Princess! Her expression exploded into radiant joy, but her voice was low, afraid to shatter the strange dream she’d found herself in – because she was definitely dreaming! “I would like that,” she murmured.
For all her daydreams, Madiquel had never expected the reality to be so amazing. She was a popular girl, and had plenty of friends but she’d never been interested in any of them, so she’d never realized what it was like to be interested in someone. Like how she could smell him (and it was amazing) and feel the warmth of him where they were close, even if he wasn’t touching her; and she swore he was the most beautiful person she’d ever seen, especially with the way the twilight was attaching itself to him, in a mingling display of light and shadow that made him look very mysterious!
The most important thing, though, was that he’d seen her, and he thought her stunning – he’d said so! – and he had asked her to dance, and that was so much, much, much better than her asking him, because surely if he asked than that meant he wanted to. He. Wanted. To. Dance. With. Her! Madiquel was in a trance when he led her onto the dancefloor, blindly and faithfully following him, floating along on cloud nine.
