Katiryn waved excitedly at her daddy when he arrived. She knew he’d come no matter how weird this clutch was suddenly being with the timing. A glance around the area had her finding Ghaeth and the silly brown’s presence brought her some peace and comfort. She loved that dragon and always clung to him when she was little and not much had changed as an adult—though she didn’t cling quite as literally anymore. If she was going to Impress, Ghaeth had to be there as much as her daddy. She was a bit sad her brother couldn’t come but she knew he was still battling a fever from a letter that arrived with Bean the day before when he wished her luck on the Touching. If She didn’t Impress that day, maybe she could just blame it on her brother saying the dragons knew how much it meant to her to have her family there.
Since none of the first eggs were one of the golds, Katiryn didn’t pay too much attention to colour but she was curious about which boys were Impressing so she moved a bit so she could see more of the group. She smiled and cheered quietly at some of the Impressions and rolled her eyes at another since she knew the guy and he was kind of a jerk and would no doubt be insufferable with a dragon. Now she really wanted one of the cranky golds so they could team up and keep him in line.
She was fantasising about that when the brown broke free, startling her and causing her to gasp as she watched it run. Thankfully, it looked to just be enthusiastic about finding his mate and Katiryn could respect that. Not that she wanted another dragon charging at her and she briefly flashed back to Bedith’s first clutch with the angry gold. Mylorah had pulled her and Dimarna out of danger and Katiryn still didn’t know how she would ever thank her enough for that.
Yet there she was at another Hatching, putting her life potentially on the line again and Mylorah wasn’t standing near her this time. Well, shit. Maybe she could sidle over a bit closer just in case? No, she was older and wiser now and would certainly be ready if a gold came charging at her once more. Hopefully. Was it possible to outrun a hatchling?
