Rhaedalyn was surprised by the turnout given the hour and it being days early but she supposed that was just the power of baby dragons. Everyone was drawn to event as they hoped for loved ones to Impress or just to see the miracle of a bond form. Sometimes seeing the young girls made her recall all the times she Stood, and failed, and then finally Aradissicath came along and picked her. Out of everyone, a dragon had found her special and she’d never forget that moment or how she felt.
Aradissicath crooned softly at her and Rhaedalyn placed a hand on her dragon’s side as a small hug. She didn’t want to lose her composure and start crying in front of everyone. No doubt everyone would think she knew something was wrong with the clutch and a panic would rush through the crowd! She didn’t need hysterics happening and knew Aradissicath would not tolerate such madness on her Sands. So she held herself together… until an egg started wobbling more than it had been.
There had still been signs of the dragonets stirring but Rhaedalyn worried people were arriving too quickly and they would be waiting until lunch with the way the rocking had slowed. Maybe it had all been a false alarm to begin with and everyone would have to leave and return another day. But no, at least one little dragonet was determined to show itself as the egg toppled over and a gasp followed by a hush went around the grounds. Everyone had seen it and now everyone as invested in what would come.
It took several minutes but finally they had their first dragon of the Hatching and Rhaedalyn glanced at R’nya to see his reaction toBrown01 setting the tone of the day. She personally didn’t believe in the superstition that a bronze as the first to hatch was good luck and green was bad. She figured for those that did believe in that nonsense, a brown would be a decent enough start and she smiled as she watched it stride with purpose to a group of boys where he eventually walked away with his lifemate in tow.
In rapid successionGreen01 and Green02 quickly followed their brother and Rhaedalyn again was trying not to giggle at how close it was to a green-opener. Honestly, Aradissicath came from a clutch of all greens and look how wonderfully she turned out and the clutch as a whole? Both of the little greens ran in opposite directions of each other to find the boys that were meant for them.
Several minutes passed of just the eggs rocking. Rhaedalyn swore she could feel the nervous energy coming from the Candidates. She knew they were excited as well but nerves would take over in the lulls of stillness as they wondered if they would be next to walk away with a dragon. She almost hated having so many Candidates, knowing most of them wouldn’t luck out that day but it helped ensure all the babies found someone so it was just a sucky situation.
Bronze01 agreed as he took that moment to break free, spilling in a mess of limbs onto the sand. He got to his feet, looking somewhat annoyed at the whole ordeal and did his best to saunter away from his far too slow siblings and towards a boy that seemed far too afraid. But after a moment, his face relaxed and he flicked a piece of shell free of his dragon’s head and they left the area.
Another egg caught her attention but it seemed to be struggling enough that it ended up not being the one to hatch next. Rhaedalyn was holding her breath for that one asBlue01 made his quiet debut. She nearly missed the Impression but looked up in time to see the dragonet slowly moving between groups of boys before finally finding the one he sought out.
Green03 finally made her way out of the egg, pushing back the stubborn shell, only to fall face first into the sand. A few giggles came from around the Candidates but a boy stepped forward telling them all to stuff it as he helped the green to her feet. She nuzzled his side and they walked off together but not before the boy flipped off the group that had found it funny.
The next to make an appearance did so with far more gusto than expected asBrown02 burst onto scene with a mighty kick that sent pieces of shell flying and bouncing off of his siblings’ eggs surrounding him. But he was free and he wasn’t letting anything else stand in his way as he took a few stiff steps and then galloped directly toward his mate that was now left standing alone as everyone near him took several steps away.
