Dessa stood by protectively as the young woman scrambled herself onto the cart, her hands on her hips and her face an expression of patience. She had all the time in the world, and was quite content to let the blonde struggle her way in by herself if that was what she was determined to do. Not that Dessa wouldn’t’ have helped if she felt she was needed, but aside from stepping forward and hovering behind her new acquaintance when she stumbled in her progress, Dessa kept her hands to herself.
Lowering her gaze to the child as the mother settled herself, Dessa arched an eyebrow questioningly and smiled slightly. “Would you like to ride with your mother, or up front?” There was plenty of room for two adults on the driving bay, and Dessa would enjoy the company of a child. She missed the days her own girls were as bright eyed and full of attitude in such tiny bodies! (they still had bright eyes an attitude, but were much more adult sized now!) “I would enjoy the company,” she added gently, but didn’t press the child further.
Dessa turned back to the blonde as she spoke. “My dear,” Dessa said sadly. “There is nothing extraordinary about it.” Was her action kind? Certainly; was she going above and beyond what she thought people should do for one another? Definitely not! It saddened her, though, that she had some idea of the situation the young woman must have come from, to feel that being helped was Dessa going out of her way. Sighing softly, Dessa glanced at the girl to see where she wanted to ride, and then made her way to the front seat and picked up the reins.
