He had purposely avoided giving his name to her in an attempt to keep her at a distance. He wasn’t like some of the other blueriders, R’nd for example, that went out of their way to greet everyone new to the Weyr, make friends, and extend offers to meet up again soon. D’hys had friends and he had colleagues. Candidates really didn’t fall into any category other than ‘to be avoided’. They always had annoying questions and now that they were North again, some of them seemed barely out of diapers.
He was about to tell her he didn’t give her name for a reason when the idea of intimidating her with rank might be more fun. D’hys pointed to his shoulder to indicate the knots there – she likely had no idea yet what they meant so it was time for some education as well, it seemed, “D’hys of blue Zeianth, the right hand, or strong arm if you prefer, of Weyrleader R’nya.” Some days he felt like he was becoming nice with how much time he spent around R’nya and Rhaedalyn but those urges were easy enough to ignore in order to keep his cushy job and benefits.
“Now that introductions are done, the dining area is just over there,” he pointed to the door across the Bowl where a group of people had just entered. “I won’t be joining you as I have to make a few reports to the Weyrleader.” He didn’t, really, but D’hys was done with his good deed of the day with getting the girl off the Hatching Ground and sending her on her way. He didn’t need to stick around any longer.
