It took a great deal of inner strength not to fidget as he waited for his knock to be answered. It wasn’t even that the time between knocking and Ameris opening the door was a long one – it couldn’t have been any longer than it likely took her to walk to the door form wherever she’d been – but with his discomfort over giving the gifts to the woman, N’mor felt like it was an eternity. When she did finally open the door and stare at him, he stared right on back.
A frown furrowed his eyebrows at the question of something happening, and he shook his head slightly. “No ma’am,” he replied, giving a slightly crooked smile as he answered, and his attention being diverted by the toddler on her hip and the warning of a mess inside. “For all that she is a proper lady now,” N’mor said, stressing the words and stepping inside when invited, “Amorandii was an absolute terror.” He tossed a wink at the little girl on Ameris’ hip, and looked around the weyr curiously but not with enough attention to be invasive.
“I hope I’m not interrupting?” N’mor asked with a slight frown. It was obvious Ameris wasn’t busy with Weyr work, but he knew family time was just as important – especially to those who couldn’t always wrangle it. “I have some things I wanted to bring you,” he said after a slight pause, giving a slight lift to the small package.
