"Shh, shh," B'jin whispered, brushing Talian's hair back gently. The stench of sweat, blood and fear was rapidly filling the room and it was all B'jin could smell as he flared his nostrils, breathing out a gentle sigh as Talian spoke. He snuggled closer to the boy, careful to be gentle lest he knock him and somehow manage to make things worse (B'jin was pretty sure knocking Talian out of bed wouldn't be good!) as his fingers danced in a soothing pattern over the healer's back. B'jin would have had to be lost in flight lust to take anything Talian did as a sexual advance, and would likely freak out and make an expedition norther to murder Talerian if he felt that Talian expected things like that to be a part of a father-son relationship!
"Shh, love." B'jin murmured, kissing the clammy forehead and watching with anxious eyes as Talian gave in to the demands of his body. The greenrider didn't move, his own frame anxious and tense as he watched Talian through the hours. He was counting breaths one moment, shifting his hand to feel the raging beat of the boy's heart through the grimy material of his shirt the next, and clinging tightly to him the entire time, as if by so doing, he could prevent some terrible last breath from leaving the child. "Oh, Talian," B'jin sighed softly, before freezing inside and out as the healer stilled, ice in his veins as he waited for another breath to be taken. He relaxed as they continued, growing steadily stronger, and tears washed down B'jin's face as Larrikith gently probed her way into both minds.
His mind is at peace, she said softly, her voice as exhausted as B'jin felt emotionally, physically. There was a quiet moment, in which dragon and rider reassured one another, before B'jin passed out, body going lax beside Talian as his mind shut down. Outside, Larrikith gave in to the overwhelming relief that had come from her rider, and gave a bellow of triumph before she, too, toppled over in an ungainly heap, her mind blacking out. The crowd of people surrounding her seemed shell shocked by the turn of events, and it took a moment before anyone reacted.
