"Red?" Tal asked, looking around and considering red walls with mild amusement. "That wouldn't work well in here, I'd imagine. We never paint patients' rooms red because it had a subliminal effect. It makes them think of blood, and therefore keeps them anxious," he said cooly. "But.." he said, leaning forward and pointing at Valerian's harper knots. "...Blue is a common color for patients' rooms. It makes them think of the sky on a calm day," he said. Of course, green was the favored 'calming' color, but he didn't feel the need to add that little bit.
Ah, stargazing. He hadn't done that in a while. Warm recognition washed over his face as he considered the question. "Something random?" Ugh, his brain didn't do random. He visibly stumbled on the question as he weighed the possible responses, much more than he should have for such a simple, up front question. Talian confused himself sometimes.
"Hmmmm. Well, I performed surgery on a man once."
He froze in place, stunned by the awkwardness of his own response. He looked down. "...It was...very difficult. And there was a lot of blood," he said, rolling on with the awkwardness because shards, what else was he going to do?
Stricken with the humor of it all, he laughed a bit. "I'm sorry. I guess my brain scrambles for what it knows best," he said.
