Once he'd helped the boy to his feet Firah crossed his arms along his chest and watched as the canine preformed her eager prancing. But it was T'bia's sudden explosion of questions that drew his gaze back to the boy. The expression that slowly grew across his face was akin to finding out the boy had two heads or something else equally as strange. Was he being serious? While Firah had been around Katila for a few turns now he had never run into someone who didn't know the mere basics of what a canine was. Then again he tended not to socialize with many people and most of those he did befriend were either Katilans old enough to know what a Canine was or his fellow Stolen. Needless to say the boy's naivety took him by surprise. Shocked as he was Firah stood quietly staring at the boy for a few moments, working out exactly how to deal with him.
"Uh... Well, lets see." He began, trying to recall what the boy had asked him. "Her name is Kymi and she's two turns old, and I named her. Canines don't Impress like Dragons or Firelizards do, they aren't as intelligent either. There is no... how would you say it... deep connection? So you can't hear them and they can't hear you. Most of the time you've got to guess what they want, but the longer you live with them and the more you train them the easier it is for both human and canine to understand each other. Canines are just animals." With a glance at Kymi he whistled the command for retrieve and was quickly rewarded with the ball being dropped into is out stretched hand.
"What she was doing was trying to get your attention because she wanted you to throw the ball for her. Like this. Ready Kymi?" Pivoting so that he was facing away from T'bia, the Beastcrafter threw the ball with some force behind it. He glanced over his shoulder. "Never met a 'rider who didn't know what a canine was. You guys have plenty of them running about the Weyr since Terken breeds them."
