B’jin’s cheesy grin didn’t so much as twitch as the candidates of his first group gathered around, all looking suitably excited – of course! – though perhaps B’jin’s cheerful mood and his own bouncing attitude of the moment caused them to appear somewhat more joyful than they actually were. He nodded greetings in return when he was spoken to, but otherwise didn’t say a whole lot, just waited. And waited. And waited – and then, finally, everyone was gathered and the event could begin! B’jin bounced slightly as he leaned forward and clapped once to gain attention.
“Alrighty!” His cheerful mood was blatantly obvious in the chipper voice, and never-fading grin. “Most of you know how this goes, but let’s roll through the rules, just to refresh your minds!” He paused, making sure he still retained attention, before throwing one arm out (the right, which wasn’t cradling Shimmer) towards the collection of eggs. “Be gentle! Eggs are fragile. They will not break if you treat them respectfully. You can just place a hand on them, or you can pet them if you wish. They should respond fairly swiftly to your touch. Please be sure you are prepared for anything!”
Wide brown eyes examined the kids dramatically. The smile was still there, as goofy as ever. “Eggs can occasionally react very strongly to a touch. Try not to fall onto someone else, or another egg. Okalinath has been kind enough to spread them all out to avoid accidents, but take care – don’t jostle each other, and be sure to take turns respectfully. There are enough here to outnumber the groups you’ve been split into, so if someone else is waiting for an egg, find another one. You only have an hour, maximum, before we will be kicked off the sand. Use it well!”
He paused, clearly having finished, but when no one immediately moved, B’jin frowned with a pout. “Well! Scoot!” There was laughter in his voice, despite his previous expression, and B’jin turned to watch them all move off. After a moment, he directed his attention towards the gold egg and those around it, before indicating to Okalinath that now would be a good time.
Knowing from talking to several of the girls, B’jin was aware that there was a lot of worry about breaking the shell as Indivara had done at the previous hatching. The greenrider didn’t believe for a moment that that would happen, but he had made arrangements to prove that fact to the understandably stressed young women. When he signalled, Okalinath made her way over to the group, and settled herself down on her hind quarters before the egg. B’jin had asked her to give the egg a couple of taps with a claw and thus prove it not likely to break, and that was what the golden dragon did, tapping the shell sharply a couple of times, before giving it a shove to roll it a little.
My babies are much better quality than Krypths, the gold spoke haughtily, and loudly. You will not harm her.
B’jin snorted.
