The offer was kind but R’nd wasn’t sure about accepting it. He slowly moved back to the shore but was working on a way to turn down the offer so the girl could eat as much as she wanted and he wouldn’t have to flounder around figuring out how to act around her.
She is a young girl. She is not going to attack you. She is not going to infect you with cooties. Although, if anything, she should be afraid of the cooties you’ve collected over the turns. Ayyonth’s comment brought about a glare but R’nd knew better than to argue. It would only provoke the dragon into teasing him further and that would only end up with two-on-one and R’nd knew he’d be on the losing end of that battle. Go sit down and enjoy a snack before we offer a hand with B’jin’s class later.
Stamina was always needed when around B’jin for one reason or another so R’nd decided it was a good idea after all to towel off and sit down opposite Casa. At least she wasn’t young enough to run sticky hands over his clothes or at that age where they wanted to talk forever and he had no idea what interested a child. At least with Amorandii, she talked nonstop and when she wanted a story, she was fine with being read one or letting him babble about adventures he had gone on with his siblings when they were around her age. Casa was at a more comfortable age since he had been dealing with Kerrin and Indivara since they were roughly that age and that had turned out relatively fine.
He offered a smile as a roll was grabbed. “Thanks. A picnic on the beach always outweighs a hard bench in the Hall.” The bun was ripped open and a slice of wherry meat was set between the slices. He really was a beach bum and R’nd wasn’t ashamed of it. Everything seemed so much better when there was a body of water nearby and soft sand beneath his feet.
Ayyonth came up out of the water a respectable distance from them so he wouldn’t spray them with water when wings extended to flap dry. Once he was satisfied with his level of dryness, the blue took flight, returning to his sunning rock. There was still enough time to properly dry off and warm up once more while R’nd ate and continued making new friends. It was good for the man to have more friends he wasn’t constantly flirting with whether by accident or purposely. It was also good training to aid him in Amorandii’s growing up since Ayyonth was confident R’nd and B’jin would remain in each other’s lives for quite some time to come and that little girl had grown rather fond of her Uncle Orwind.
We can give her a ride when we head home after your meal, Ayyonth’s suggestion made R’nd pause and cast a glance at his lazing dragon. They could but he didn’t want to step on any toes and assume it would be okay. “When is your ride coming for you?” Asking if she had a ride home was silly given the distance she would have to cover by foot and the fact someone had dropped her off so timing was the more important question. “Ayyonth and I can give you a lift when we leave in a bit if it won’t overlap with someone coming to get you.” That was all he needed! If a dragonrider came out to the lake for no reason, even via a jump, it would make the man cranky at him and R’nd would rather keep on good terms with everyone – except S’kef. They were never going to get along given all that had happened.
