The blood-curdling expression Indivara was giving him didn't appear to faze Isscer; he'd dealt with more impressive brats before, and Indivara looked visibly pale. It was probably some kind of cold, but it definitely made her less intimidating to know that she wasn't at the top of her game. The easy way that Indivara interacted with Krypth, however, was a bit unsettling, and Isscer took a step back with the large dragon moved.
It was silly for a girl to think she could Impress bronze. Such a thing had never happened before, and even female brownriders were so rare that it never occurred to Isscer that it was possible. He could count on one hand the number of females who had Impressed fighting dragons in the last few Katilan clutches, so it seemed rare that Indivara would be lucky enough to Impress at all, let alone a bronze.
"You certainly don't seem like the type to Impress Gold." Goldriders were more often than not very feminine, girly creatures; Indivara had never stuck Isscer as such a person, and if a female got to Impress a fighter, he assumed it would be her. But it was no secret that she had been barred from the Candidate class, for reasons Isscer didn't understand but assumed to be due to her abrasive personality. "A blue would be just as well, I suppose. It's no bronze, but I could never see you with a gold."
Isscer's eyes narrowed at her, mouth thinning into a line at her snide comment. "I don't see any point. With all the Hatchings I've been to, if Impression is meant to happen it will. Touching eggs probably doesn't make any difference whatsoever." It was a blustery, semi-weak attempt to deflect the question; Isscer was certainly one of the unhappy Northern candidates, and anyone with eyes in their head could tell that he was far from enthused about the upcoming Hatching in general. "Having said that, the eggs do have dragonets in them. We all know how dangerous hungry dragonets can be."
