Talian missed B'jin. A lot had happened lately, and while Talian was physically sound (the shoulder had healed quickly and was little more than sore), he was mentally strained. The last nine days had been a roller coaster of ups and downs. It started with a dragon trying to destroy the hall and ended with a horrific public humiliation, though mercifully nothing had yet come of the supposed suspicion.
Valerian was a wonderful help, and Tal knew B'jin had his own things to worry about, with his friend the Weyrleader being hospitalized. That didn't mean Tal didn't miss B'jin, though. The healer wanted badly to seek his father's comfort in those first few days, but his instincts to curl up and be alone were just as strong. In the end, he talked himself out of seeking B'jin, convinced that the greenrider had better things to do and was probably trying his best to pretend all this horrific nonsense wasn't going on. Tal wasn't so foolish as to assume B'jin didn't care, but he wouldn't be surprised if his father was in denial.
Nine days seemed like a safe benchmark, though. Tal had arranged quietly to meet the greenrider for lunch. He was eager to see B'jin, but at the same time, he wasn't thrilled for B'jin to see him in his current state. Talian was both stretched thin from lack of sleep and near-manic with boredom and paranoia. He had comically large bags under his eyes and his fingers twitched far worse than usual as he dove into his second mug of klah, content to wait for B'jin to arrive. He had klah!
Fellis sat lightly on Tal's shoulder, eyeing the liquid with curiosity. Talian was pleased with his little friend's progress. Fellis was not exactly comfortable in large crowds, but he no longer made a point of hiding in Talian's clothes every time! Tal smiled at rubbed the little creature's chin. "B'jin will be here soon. You need to be on your best behavior, okay?" Talian didn't understand B'jin's hatred of fire lizards, but he didn't question it. B'jin had clearly not understood Talian's former hatred of dragons, so he supposed turnabout was fair play. B'jin didn't have to like fire lizards! Tal was just happy that B'jin was willing to play nice with Fellis, whom Talian had come to adore so very much.
It gave the young man peace of mind, considering what was coming up soon. That gold dragon was getting awfully fat... But at least that was something to worry about outside of his other troubles.
What a clusterfuck. It was almost funny. It would be okay, though. In theory. Hopefully.
B'jin would be a great help; he made the worst situations seem livable. Talian was looking forward to seeing him. He just hoped that his father was weathering the storm as (relatively) well as he was. Tal had been worried. Poor B'jin had been through so much!
