She’d jerked at the feel of Nejerc’s hands closing on her shoulders and her body’s reflex’s took over as she began to quiver and shake in his hands. What was he doing?! Where was he taking her?! Why couldn’t he just tell her where to go?! Why did he have to touch her?! He was hurting her!
Okay, so he wasn’t really hurting her, but that was exactly what her mind registered and while she was not strong enough to fight back as he guided her out of the crowd, she had just about found her voice to cry out when those hands left again and his voice told her to breathe and relax, even as he backed up. Panting, she quivered and shook as she stepped a bit further away from him and pushed her back against the stone wall nearby.
Why did he do that? Was she in the way? Why couldn’t he have told her to just move?! Her mind raced as her breath was short and labored – the little bronze in her arms was picking up on it and mixing it with the confusion already in the air as he hissed and snapped at the man who’d dared to touch her. Thankfully, however, Aparicus held him tightly for reassurance as much as to control him from flying at the man’s face.
He was right though… and while it took a few minutes for the words to sink in that B’jin had said everything would be okay, they finally did and her heart began to slow as she realized he wasn’t moving to touch her again.
“S-sorry… I just… C-crowds.” She said stammering as if any of that would make sense. Shushing softly to her lizard, she unwrapped one arm from around him to stroke his neck, though she had to quickly return it to hold him close as he tried to climb out of the towel he was wrapped in, still hissing and sputtering at Nejerc.
“I-it’s okay… Shush… I-I think he was helping…” she murmured softly to the lizard before regarding the man and the crowd around the candidate master once more. “What’s happening? I don’t understand…” Her eyes passed by R’nd and B’jin comforting each other to go through other various couples and eventually catch sight of Jada and the Weyr Leader’s own child in her arms before she finally glanced those wide, worried and scared eyes back to Nejerc who seemed almost collected and calculating.
