Firelizards. They were showing up like weeds in a garden, like wherries just after the cold season. The weyr wasn't exactly unified in how they saw the little things. Many were taking to them eagerly, but some were also avoiding them like the disease that they had once brought the dragons. Nejerc was.. neither. He wasn't sure he liked the little things flying around, they were the whole reason that Katila was what it was today. If it was a good or bad thing in comparison to what could have been had they not spread some sickness to the dragons in the first place would probably be forever unknown.
Nejerc sat in the dining hall at a table by himself, a cup of wine in front of him which he held with both hands his gaze focused into the depths of his cup. He was at the moment oblivious to any who came upon him. He'd chosen a rather late hour so as to avoid a crowd, he'd wanted out of his room but not in a group of people. He needed a moment to think. With the firelizards a lot of talk had come up around the weyr and it wasn't like he wasn't going to listen when people were talking right in front of him. If they said something that was suppose to stay just between the two in the conversation it wasn't his fault they didn't move to a more private location.
'Shards!' If just one of the things got a small cough, like that brown had turns back! The weyr would be in chaos. He was in no position to voice his opinion on the firelizards or how they should be handled, which was good he had no idea what would be exactly a good choice. He doubted there was a 'right' and 'wrong' choice in this case, but many probably saw it that there was. He did not envy D'ren if he was still weyr leader when and if the time came that one of the little lizards caught a cold, because it would be him who had to make the choice of what was to be done then.
There would undoubtedly be more conflict than there was now if one of things got sick. It was a good thing he wasn't interested in having one of the things for himself. Nejerc was pretty sure he wouldn't know what to do with himself or with a firelizard if it 'impressed' to him. It had been crazy when the egg hunt had begun, but he'd stayed clear of the groups who had gone out to look for eggs and now was rather grateful. This still left him unsure of how he should behave around the things. They were much harder to understand than humans or dragons, what exactly motivated them? Food?
