D'ren picked up on the hints of sarcasm in the boy's response, but he chose not to comment about it. There were too many factors at work to assume it was intentional; distance, noise level, hot weather, and so forth. Instead, D'ren strode forward with an optimistic but not overly enthusiastic smile. He'd give the kid some benefit of the doubt, at least until given a reason not to.
Ronarth was far less cautious. He trotted forward, raising his wings briefly to avoid knocking his rider over, and approached Erisi outright. The bronze lowered his head and nudged the youth gently, provoking a sharp whistle and a hustled pace from his rider. "Ronarth! Get back!" D'ren said sharply, more sharply than he would have liked.
Ronarth recoiled suddenly. His eyes flashed with an alarmed and disappointed yellow. Oh, I'm sorry! he said. His distressed words were aimed at D'ren, but they were open for Erisi to hear as well. D'ren narrowed his eyes sternly, though he felt his stomach churning. He'd only just arrived, and this was happening already?
He turned to Erisi. "I'm terribly sorry about that. He's just a bit overly-friendly is all."
