Two eggs later and finally — finally — a brown dragonet appeared, proving there were at least some in the Clutch. Rubren was excited every non-green dragonet that appeared (not that he would be interested in the gold when she hatched, but still), and silently urged them in his direction. There were just so few of them!
Though it seemed the streak of greens was ending, because after the first brown there was a blue and a second brown (and another green, but Rue wasn’t paying attention to it). He laughed at the little spat between the blue and brown, amused at how offended the little blue was and how little the brown cared.
And suddenly the brown was walking toward him and Rubren held his breath, letting a disappointed sigh out as the brown seemed to move past him. He almost immediately froze again as the brown appeared on his other side, passing in front of him to circle behind him again.
Oh, relax, I’m not going anywhere, Opheleth said, sitting down on Rubren’s right side, pressed against his legs, and staring at the blue tauntingly, he’s not worth the time. You are. With adoration in his eyes the brown looked up at Rubren. No, he had a new name now, didn’t he?
R’ben, Opheleth confirmed with a nod, eyes whirling proudly. His rider, who he named. R’ben grinned at Opheleth. He was the most perfect dragonet R’ben had ever seen, how could he have ever wanted a bronze when browns like Opheleth existed?
I wasn’t hatched yet, it’s forgivable. Though if you don’t feed me right now I may be unable to forgive that. Rue laughed, and gestured for the little brown to lead the way towards the buckets of food so Opheleth could have his meal.
