Talian seemed to deflate a bit as he let his guard down. Presently, after a split second of hesitation, he managed a modest smile. "I'm a healer as well," he remarked, though he was careful to leave rank out of it.
He perked up a little, if only because he realized he wasn't about to be destroyed. He slid his thin hands into his pockets and tossed his hair from his eyes. "It's fine. Like I said, I didn't mean to startle you," he said. There wasn't an angry bone in the boy's body, though Lysmelia's idea of him as a 'sad-sack' wasn't too far off mark. He let out a relieved exhale and looked back a her, staring dead into her eyes as he spoke.
"I suppose," he said. "I'm not the best company, though. There isn't much of a story or anything," he replied. He wasn't sure why he said it, either. He didn't want to make friends with these deplorable dragon-people. He didn't even think he was capable of it. He just didn't want to be rude! But even as he protested to himself, he couldn't help but wonder if something deep inside of him was just terribly lonely. After all, he never spoke to anyone except patients, and only barely to them. He hadn't had a pleasant chat with anyone since arriving. He was absolutely alone, and part of him both recognized and resented that.
Maybe taking some time to talk to this girl wasn't such a bad idea after all. His eyes widened and brightened just a touch, though they still hung heavy with lack of sleep and mental fatigue. He stopped walking and turned towards her. "Did you have something in mind?"
Something in his brain twitched. You never DID learn how to talk to people he sighed to himself. He pause was almost comical in it's naive awkwardness.
