Benden: 32 C to 39 C

Benden is hit with a heavy heatwave in the last week of Month Six, and first week of Month Seven, which carries through to the end of the month. Their weather will begin to cool in the last week of the month, dropping to the low 30s.

Ista Isle is amused by the weaklings of Benden, but at least their heat is dry. Benden is muggy and riddled with heavy thunderstorms and downpours.

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

General Description:
A fairly unremarkable shade of darker brown that is worn loose to show the natural wave. He rarely lets it get any longer than his earlobes.

Two things stick out immediately upon first glancing upon him. Despite having been a dragonrider and having his aging slowed for a while, he has a healthy dose of white hair in his beard that he keeps well-manicured and not too long since a little scruff never hurt anyone. Even with the white reaching up into his temples, Jajojin’s hair is still all his natural shade of brown. This might inspire some men to keep his face clean-shaven but Jajojin thinks the salt and pepper beard makes him look more distinguished.

The second eye-catching feature he possesses comes in the form of a very well-maintained body with abs, he’s been told by a few women, clothes can be washed on. Perhaps because of the life of a dragonrider and living in Katila’s seclusion with minimal resources for so long, his fit form is not overly intimidating as would be seen with a body builder or someone focusing too much on pecs and arms.
General Dressing Style:
Jajojin can be rather casual in his attire thanks again to the years spent in Katila with lack of resources. Given the heat that can beat down on them in the hotter months, he is often seen only in comfortable pants or shorts usually without a shirt if he can help it or a loose open button-up when he feels a need to be covered.

Personality
Likes:
Exercise: It’s a great escape for him. Once, it was just to cater to his pride with looking his best but now it helps to free his mind for a little while.

Fellis: A slight addiction has formed thanks to the healers plying him with regular doses of the soothing liquid and now he still prefers to use it whether to help him sleep or relax.

Waking Early: Assuming he’s not in a drug haze from fellis that keeps him asleep longer than intended, Jajojin still finds waking up early to be a habit he can’t shake. He’ll often start the day with a run before tending to any Weyr business that needs him.
Strengths:
Frank: He doesn’t hold anything back and will tell you what he truthfully thinks of you or something you did. He doesn’t see a need to pussyfoot around things.

Proactive: As a former Weyrleader, he had to look after the needs of his people and make decisions and actions to assist them. Proactive is better than reactive in his mind.

Hardworking: Jajojin is not one to sit around. He likes to be active and will help build something or simply work on maintaining his physique.
Dislikes:
Disrespect: As a bronzerider and Weyrleader, he always believed everyone should respect him. Once he lost his Denath, he felt he lost a lot of respect due to him and will put people in their place when they forget it.

Firelizards: Intrusive! Before Denath’s death, he was fine with the critters but didn’t want one of his own. Now, he finds them buzzing on the edges of his mind to be rude and unwelcomed.

Harm befalling his daughter: Since the landslide, Jajojin has focused a lot of energy into raising Madiquel and loves her dearly. He will do his best to protect her both physically and mentally.
Flaws:
Arrogant: He knows he’s good at what he does and how he looks.

Quick-tempered: While he’s not likely to bite your head off on a daily basis, Jajojin’s unstable mind can emerge at any point and he can be triggered by the simplest of comments. This can leave him a bit resentful for a while as well.

Mentally Unstable: Some days, he’s just not in the right frame of mind and babbles to himself, talks to his dead dragon, or relives the moment when they were parted. He no longer needs to be watched in case he does something stupid too himself but on bad days, some people pay more attention.
Habits & Mannerisms:
When the loss of Denath becomes too much, Jajojin goes for long runs to get away from the memories. He also always wears a bracelet of pretty beads that he will take off and fiddle with when he’s struggling with memories or anxiety.
General Personality:
To put it mildly, Jajojin is a bit off his rocker. He is one of the brave – or cowardly depending on who you ask – riders that didn’t die with his dragon. Because of this, Jajojin has times where he’s not in his right mind. He can have mental lapses where he believes his bronze dragon is still with him and can be seen talking aloud to Denath while other times he has moments of panic and can’t be near a dragon until he’s calmed down again.

Due to the loss, there are days where nothing but alcohol can help ease the pain but on clearer days, one almost couldn’t tell he had lost his lifemate unless they saw the sorrow and haunted expression in his eyes.

Most days, Jajojin is more even-tempered though some would call him surly or brusque but that may be due more in part to his age and feeling a bit like an outsider. Nothing says you don’t belong around dragonriders when you don’t have a dragon.

He wants to help, though, as seeing dragons go between for any reason is hard on him. Despite his reluctance to let another dragon ever enter his mind again, Jajojin reaches out to struggling riders to offer tips and a listening ear. Call him arrogant but, after all, he was once a Weyrleader like his father before him so he knows a few things that could be useful.

682-690 & 1-9: Nothing out of the ordinary for a child growing up in a Weyr.

691-694 & 11-13: Begins Standing but continuously walks away without a dragon.

695 & 14: His mother is promoted to Weyrwoman after the current one retires from old age. By the end of the turn she rises and no one is surprised that his father wins the flight and becomes Weyrleader.

696 & 15: Finally Impresses and to a bronze! His parents are thrilled though they all believed he would get bronze.

698 & 17: Graduation! J’jin is excited to start taking on larger roles within the Weyr and tries his best to learn more about running the place from his father.

701 & 20: Starts to seriously consider asking for a transfer to another Weyr. He’ll never be able to have a shot at Weyrleader if his mother continues to stay Weyrwoman but ends up staying in order to learn more about the job so he’s ready for when he can win.

704 & 23: Has a one night stand with a reveler at a Telgar Hold’s gather. Apparently he got her pregnant but he wishes her well with the pregnancy and says he’ll be back in twelve turns to see if it’s a boy that can be Searched.

709 & 28: His father dies in a freak training exercise while going between. He never returns and no one knows what happened to cause it. His mother is inconsolable and steps down as Weyrwoman as she refuses to let another man win her flights and rule where her husband should still be. A new goldrider is selected.

711 & 30: J’jin wins the Weyrwoman’s flight and is immediately promoted to Weyrleader. Having grown up around the inner workings, he adapts well to the role and enjoys the power he has been working for.

712-715 & 31-34: Does well as Weyrleader and his people seem to enjoy him as their leader. A few flights over the turns are too close for his comfort but he still wins in the end which is all that matters.

716 & 35: The plague is working its way through the dragon population and the order is given to flee South. J’jin hesitates initially as he’s not one to run away from battles. However, the plague begins in earnest at Telgar and even claims his mother. He gives in and orders everyone South.

717-719 & 36-38: Not having a true mate that he loved, J’jin goes into exile with Taerian, his Weyrwoman. It’s better than being lonely and they always got along well enough.

720 & 39: At the start of the turn, Taerian goes out hunting alone in the early hours of morning and is attacked by a feline. J’jin finds her, still alive, but can’t do enough to save her as she dies from her wounds days later. The sudden loss of a human and dragon is hard as they had been their only companionship for turns. When the call to reunite is heard months later, J’jin jumps at the chance to be near people again and to be rid of the memories of exile.

721-726 & 40-45: J’jin is happy to see some of his former Weyr’s population had survived even the slimier ones like J’ver. He throws himself into helping to build Katila and offers leadership when needed as part of the committee of elder bronzeriders.

727 & 46: Nirinath finally rises and despite misgivings at ruling this particular Weyr and what to do with returning North or not, J’jin and Denath give chase but lose to D’ren and Ronarth.

728-731 & 47-50: The kidnapping of Candidates in the North is a bit distasteful but J’jin supports it all the same as they need men and women to Stand for any possible clutches. By this point, he fully believes they should be in the North once more and reigning proudly as they once had and listens in on conversations of others who think this way.

734 & 53: The landslide took more away than just huts. Denath went to help the youngest dragonets to get out of trouble and ended up getting caught up in another rush of mud with a building collapsing on him. He’s injured enough and pinned that he can do nothing more than say good bye to J’jin and wish him to continue on for them both before going between for the last time. The entire turn is spent piecing his mind back together and accepting he’s once more Jajojin and dragonless.

735 & 54: Still learning to function as a normal human again but beginning to interact with riders more regularly. He can’t spend too much time around dragons before he feels his loss too strongly and he refuses to let any dragon speak to him.

736 & 55: With the move North to reopen all of the Weyrs finally in full effect, Jajojin offers up his knowledge to mentor one of the younger bronzeriders that’s expected to be a Weyrleader. He’s run from his problems long enough and now it’s time to whip people into shape once more.

739 & 58: The Ista fires is something he can't directly help with, which is a good thing considering it adds to his anxiety and brings up memories of the landslide and losing Denath. He's sedated regularly during that time to help keep him calm as news continues to roll in. The year also sees Jajojin harassing R'nya into finding a way to get Madiquel into Healer Hall, though he doesn't like the idea of his daughter being so far away.

740 & 59: He's proud of Maidquel working hard at the Hall and visits when he can... until she Impresses accidentally at an Ista Hatching. Jajojin is beside himself with fear for her safety and though it took a week to get him on a dragon, he joins his daughter in Ista to be there for her in the early and difficult months.
