Appearance

   

Eyes: Wide, expressive eyes sit predominantly on Z'ia's face, framed by a thick set of long dark lashes, the colour is a warm and expressive olive green - not that anyone ever gets to see the colour, so often hidden behind adrenaline dilated pupils. Despite that, his eyes are no stranger to emotions, and - when not clouded by adrenaline - they are bright and alive with joy, or dark and shadowed with less positive emotions. Adding to the overly expressive nature of his eyes, Z'ia has carefully maintained eyebrows arching delicately above, just a few shades darker than his hair.

Hair: Dull brown ringlet curls falling to his shoulders, Z'ia's hair is of a shaggy cut that appears to be well maintained, but in truth, the man has very little to do with it. His hair, soft, curly and silky to touch, is completely self maintaining - not that he'll ever admit as much. In fact, he will go out of his way to make up fanciful tales about all the hard work, effort and care he puts into it. How washing it with this made it so delightfully soft today, or how that simply destroyed his lovely curls! Then he will watch with smug amusement as fanciful ladies (and some few men, too!) will attempt to copy the process of such gorgeous hair - when it was nothing he did at all. Being as caught up in the feel of his hair as any number of his lovers, Z'ia spends a great deal of his time running his fingers back through it in a combing motion, tugging on curls and then letting them bounce back, or simply twirling a curl between and around his fingers.

General Appearance: Z'ia has always been tiny, and it quickly became apparent that young Zaiopia would never grow to be very big. With an outstanding height of barely five foot three, Zaiopia reached his mature height in his mid teens, and simply failed to grow any more. His life with horses, then as an outcast during the Plague - while failing to add to his height - did add to the athletically subtle muscle tone he claims, and his lightly poised posture. Always ready to bolt, Z'ia carries his weight on the balls of his feet, arms loose and ready by his sides. Being as small as he is, he uses his swift if short legs to the best of his advantage, and as a result, is both fast and difficult to capture should be be found rabbiting out of reach of someone.

With springs located somewhere in his feet, he also makes a laughing stock of some of the taller riders, by the simple and agile way he can leap aboard Aveleth without batting an eye, as if the dragon were not severely taller than himself. He is also considerably stronger than many give him credit for, his tiny, wiry build hiding strength not immediately apparent. However, while he can hold his own in a brawl, Z'ia is much more suited for ducking and dodging than he is for landing punches, though being so small, he tends to aim right for the jewels and he has no qualms at all about winning so dirtily. After all, if they wanted to play fair, they wouldn't be picking on someone half their size!

While Z'ia has a head full of hair, and will occasionally sport facial hair if he feels the need to change his appearance a little, he is otherwise a fairly hairless man. His eyebrows are carefully maintained, and when he does allow his facial hair to grow, that, too, is carefully maintained and kept until he feels the desire to be rid of it. He is extremely vain when it comes to his appearance, and goes out of his way to make sure he is always looking the best he possibly can. As a result, he is also extremely disproving of those that fail to keep themselves tidy, or are cursed by being overly hairy and... goodness! Accept it!

Z'ia has clean, straight white teeth that he often shows in any number of smiles - cheerful, pleasant, flirty, cruel or disgusted. He has a smile for every emotion, and each one shows the neat alignment of his teeth to the best of their advantage, for even when being mean, one must look their best! Alongside his ever present smile, Z'ia has an extremely expressive face, from eyebrows, forehead, eyes, cheeks, lips and chin - his features paint an easily read portrait of whatever emotion he so desires to display at the time. Unfortunately, Z'ia is also an extremely good actor, and very rarely will he show the emotion he is truly feeling -- unless he desires for the recipient to know, of course.

Dressing Style: While Z'ia will go out of his way to make sure he always looks great, and his clothing will always be of great quality, clean and tidy, he very rarely wears items with a lot of flair. Preferring simple pants and a modest shirt, Z'ia feels his clothing should compliment the amazing that is his body, not outshine it or distract from it. He finds the need to wear flippant clothing highly amusing, and is known to mock those that wear such outfits. He also detests old, ratty clothing and is known to toss those he considers 'worn' out to be used by someone else... usually Weyrbrats, as they are generally the only one's small enough to wear his 'old' clothing.

Z'ia's shoes are usually well worn, but obviously well cared for. His footwear lasts longer in general than his clothing, as he hates the process of breaking in the leather of a new set. Instead, he will wear his boots out and take a great deal of care looking after them, in order to preserve their life and thus, his comfort, for as long as possible.

Claiming three sets of dragonriding leathers, Z'ia takes extremely good care of them, being sure they are always kept in the best of condition and are ever ready to be called upon.
   

   

Personality

   

General Character Traits:

Habits/Mannerisms: Z'ia holds his weight delicately on the balls of his feet, always ready to bound away. He can often be seen with his fingers twined in his hair, or fiddling with one of the curls. His pupils are often dilated with adrenaline.

Opinions:
  Threadfall Theory: "If there wasn't the threat of Thread, there wouldn't be dragons."
  Stealing/Kidnapping: He didn't approve, but kept his opinions to himself.
    Weryrleader S'kef: He rather enjoyed the mayhem that the brownrider seemed to bring with him and all that he did, whether he actually deserved credit or not.
     Firelizards: He loves his, but would just as quickly be rid of everyone else's
    Women's loss of honourifics: Women are not real dragonriders, and should not pretend that they are.
  Return North: About bloody time!

Likes:
   Sunshine: There is something about the sun, and the warmth and strength it radiates, that appeals to Z'ia in a way that very few other things can effect him. He is almost as lazy as a dragon, going out of his way to spend time doing nothing in the warmth of the sun, no matter what season it is, or what he is meant to be doing. While he usually has the presence of mind to play up Aveleth's dreaming nature to explain his laziness, even before his Impression, Z'ia was well known for his sun affected work abilities. Unfortunately, taking away the sun does little to motivate the tiny man. If he could figure out how to do it and live, Z'ia would between to the sun and live in warm laziness for the rest of his life.
   Fire: Perhaps linked to his affection for the warmth of the sun, Z'ia is a lover of the fire. When the sun is no longer in the skies, or the day is dour, the young man can be found crowded around an open fire, roasting his small body in the heat and light given off by the living entity. While the man is questionably respectful to those that out rank him, he has an unquestionable respect for fire, and the damage it can do. He excelled in the Firestone training he underwent with Aveleth, his fascination and respect both allowing the young man to do the best that could possibly be done, whilst also remaining safe. He looks down on those that play with fire, sitting back and waiting for them to get burned.
   Freefalling: Z'ia has always been an adrenaline junkie, and was part of the reason he made such a good jockey, regardless of his tiny structure. He finds nothing more enjoyable than the rush of adrenaline flooding his system, and since being Searched and, finally, Impressing took away his life of riding runners at breakneck speed, Z'ia had to find new ways to get his thrill. During Weyrlinghood, it came through pressing the buttons of his superiors; upon Aveleth's maturity, Flights were added to the list, and when they took to the skies together as rider and dragon, that, too, was something Z'ia found exhilarating. Then, he discovered - by accident - freefalling. Now, when they can, Z'ia will take Aveleth outside the local boundaries, high above the world of Pern, and plummet from the safety of his dragon's body to the reaching arms of the planet below. This particular habit is a tightly guarded secret.

Dislikes:
   Scoldings: Z'ia is incapable of taking a reprimand in, and hearing what is said. He has no sense of reason to be called upon or sought after. Everything is a game, and being scolded is a pain in the rear, but something he is used to - for it is, after all, just another move in the game of life! Instead, he simply nods his head, looks mildly contrite, and does it all over again once his superior's back is turned. He doesn't actually mean to be a trouble maker, but some people are naturally talented at it, and Z'ia is one of them.
   Nightmares: Being a fun loving and free type of fellow, when Z'ia finds himself bogged down in nightmares - whether those he dreams at night, or those he invents to haunt him in the daytime - he will become sour and disagreeable until he can get himself out of the slump. Reminiscent of a proddy green at such times, he is disagreeable and petty. He also makes a wonderful target for friends that he often bests at other times, especially since such times make him sluggish and slow - both mentally and physically, and he relies on a swift mouth and swifter feet to make up for his small size.
   Hairy People: Man or woman, Z'ia finds them absolutely revolting, and cannot understand how they maintain to live while bristling hair like some wild animal. He finds G'rem to be especially horrifying, and will go as far out of his way to avoid the man, and other's like him, to the point of being blatantly rude and sometimes even cruel. He makes no secret of his horror of them, and often makes loud and obnoxious commentary about how do they ever get laid?!

Pern has a high infant mortality rate. Keep this in mind. Most families will produce 4-6 children, of which maybe half will make it to adulthood. Most Pernese die between 50 and 70 if they hold ranking or 'cushy' positions in life. Low ranking peasants and the like are more inclined to die in their late 40's due to the harsher lifestyle they lived. Dragonriders average about 100 years, and have a slowed rate of aging. A LOT of women die in childbirth, especially with their first child, or if they are old and still falling pregnant. It is considered a sin for Hold and Hall women to abort, and even Weyr women are frowned upon, as all children are needed.
