While R’nd often liked to focus on the finer details, he was also adept at seeing the bigger picture. He liked to know his surroundings and the best way to keep a step ahead in almost anything he did. It didn’t always work as it was hard to clearly predict how a person would react but he felt he was rather good at coming up with scenarios. Now was one of those times. He knew the weyrlings barracks from his own time within the walls and visiting the new batch so he was familiar with a second route to Jada’s room. He was still of the opinion that was where she would head if she wasn’t caught before then so when she bolted during a small opening, R’nd went the other way.
He ran down the hall as Ayyonth continued his steady push ever closer to the beautiful gold that teased and enticed. There was the hope he would beat his rivals to help the cause and motivate Ayyonth into making the final play on his end but R’nd was pleasantly surprised to see he had beaten her as well. He stepped inside her room, a bold move he wouldn’t have done outside the flight but morals and self-imposed restraints were checked at the door as soon as the female rose. With his predatory nature in full swing, R’nd grinned in delight at the game he had just initiated. Why chase, though he had been and his waiting would only be for a few seconds, when the prey could come to you for an ambush? The surprise he suspected he would give Jada might just be the edge needed to win. If it threw the goldpair off enough, Ayyonth had a chance to swoop in, overtaking the rivals he had yet to shake.
Ayyonth was focused and crooned his adoration for the little gold though in the back of his mind Larrikith lurked, glaring. He knew his feisty green companion wouldn’t be happy that he chased another, a gold at that! Since she would already be furious, Ayyonth figured he might as well go for the gold; literally. R’nd hadn’t been up to the idea at first but his human was absorbed in the flightlust and the desire to win, so why give up now? He swerved around the blue weyrling Larrikith had a fondness for and made his final push, giving everything he had left in him to catch up to Tyrrisath and show the arrogant brown that a blue is just as worthy and amazing – perhaps even more so.
