Valerian was enjoying himself in his own way by tapping his fingers on his legs to the beat of the song while continuing to people-watch. He had already pegged a few people that would end up going home together thanks to wine making them braver, or more desperate, and while he likely wouldn’t see them the next day, he hoped he would to see if they did the awkward walk of shame and avoided eye contact with the person they had bedded. It was due to his enjoyment in thinking on other people’s possible misfortune that he missed Lymsleia approach him. So when she asked him to dance, he just gave her a blank stare.
“What?” Why would she ask him? He couldn’t recall a time he was ever nice to her and he was certain there would be others she would have more fun dancing with. He was about to tell her exactly that when he saw the determination in her mismatched eyes and Valerian wondered if it was really worth an argument on a night meant to celebrate. He had shown up for the gathering to get out and have some fun and he did enjoy dancing. Erisi wouldn’t be too pleased if he said yes and Valerian wasn’t sure how pleased he would be with himself later on either but it was a good dancing tune and he couldn’t stay curled up in his chair all night without risk of legs falling asleep.
With a shrug, Valerian untangled himself and rose to his feet. “Fine, but just one dance,” he lifted a hand and held up his pointer finger to indicate the number just in case the girl couldn’t hear his reply. Offering his hand to her as a proper gentleman, Valerian was ready to lead them to the dance area.
