Landen wasn't exactly enjoying this hatching, the heat was oppressive and stifling and he didn't like it. He never would've thought he'd say he hated the heat but there was something wholly awful about the cloud of hotness that had settled over Benden. He'd made Pie try to stay as low as possible in the cavern, the small blue not doing well with the heat outside and Landen had been afraid he'd die from it. He groaned quietly as a new blast of heat slapped him in the face and Landen shifted away from one of the lads standing near him.
A bronze hatched first and wasn't that exciting? He couldn't drag the normally exuberant excitement up and the candidate wondered if he had finally hit a wall with hatching? A brown was next, a naughty brown and even though the fellow ended up tore a little Landen couldn't stop the burst of laughter when the brown pounced on the bronze inside. That was probably a bad idea on the dragon's part but it was still amusing, though the bronze didn't think so and Landen grimaced in sympathy as the bronze ran full tilt through the candidates.
The greens that erupted into a fight with the bronze wasn't really that surprising to him and Landen knew the heat was doing a number on his empathy when all he could do was watch impassively throughout the ordeal. The greens and the bronze finally - finally! - impressed and Landen shifted again as the movement of the eggs died back down. They waited for what felt like centuries before an adorable little blue popped shell and Landen's lips curved into a smile as the fellow peeped before running full tilt around the candidates. His eyes rolled at the fearful sounds coming from the others and nodded absentmindedly as the blue found his boy.
