“Woah! I’m all for being eager, but a little warning, friend!” Ulliendis told the egg since he wasn’t sure if the dragonet within the shell could actually hear or understand him. Still, it was a reaction to speak when being assaulted in such a way and he gave a little shake of his head as if to clear it. He didn’t like old memories coming back to haunt him and didn’t need the reminder that even he had fears and weaknesses. Although he supposed he could use it as a lesson to keep himself sharp and not make the mistakes of his past. Still, he didn’t need to share them with a nosy dragon.
But the dragonet was right. A lot of his craft came down to picking the right mark; both to trust and to target. The right tactics had to be employed and his intuition honed enough to know who he could talk to and how much to share. Rhamnus immediately came to mind as the healer was fascinating and Ulliendis had deemed him shady in his own way that sharing his lock-picking skills seemed safe. Turned out he had been right—so far. Rhamnus kept sharing his own secrets and being generally fun to be around.
But maybe a bit of fear wouldn’t hurt him. He really was being rather carefree and perhaps careless since giving up being a Harper and moving to the Weyrs. “Thanks for the advice,” Ulliendis patted the egg with a wide grin and turned on his heel to survey the scene. Some people had moved off, apparently done with the fun, while others were still going strong. Where did he want to fall in?
More Touching!
And wasn’t that just his life goal in general?
He hadn’t really been paying attention to where others had been going and really, he barely recalled which ones he had been to now, but Ulliendis went a bit deeper into the clutch, knowing he had a couple behind him he’d been to. He spotted one that didn’t seem to have as many tracks around it and claimed it as the next perfect target.
Egg 14, please!
