Rakka hesitated, there was so much uncertainty in the air around her, perhaps it was all coming from her. She loved dragons, adored them, was enchanted by the spell they cast over her whenever she was around them. And yet, here on the sands, in the presence of the queen, in front of all the beautiful eggs, she balked. It wasn't that she was afraid, Rakka was afraid of nothing! It was more that she was indecisive, and uncertain.
A number of other girls had already touched the gold egg, and yet the beautiful egg mesmerized her. She was a little greedy and perhaps confident that there was a chance she could impress the glorious queen which lurked inside the egg, ever growing, soon to spill from the protective casing onto the sands and choose one of the women here. Why couldn't it be Rakka?
Carefully she picked her way across the sand, looking at each egg with quiet curiosity, they were all such beautiful creations, masterpieces. Long legs covered the distance quickly, gangly arm reaching out, elegant long fingers stretching slowly, carefully towards the egg on the hot sands. She slowly dragged her fingers over the shell, her heart fluttering at the idea of the beautiful creature inside.
Perhaps she was overly deferent towards dragons, but it was part of how she had been raised. And also part of her, dragons were beautiful, glorious creatures. She let her full hand rest on the golden egg closing her eyes to shut out any distraction as she tried to feel something... anything, convincer herself that there really was a little dragon inside the egg.
