“How long have you lived here?” he asked, trying to keep the conversation going. Maybe if he just kept talking she’d forget he was carrying her and why. “I was searched for Ista but I don’t remember a Ferra, but I do remember your brother,” he continued with a grin as she huffed at him. He laughed when she started punctuating her dismay with fists again. He backtracked at her demands. “Alright,” he told her as he shuffled her around to keep from dropping her.
“You know you can just ask me something,” he said with a slight roll of his eyes, “I promise I’m not as dumb as I look so you don’t have to keep hitting to get me to do it.” He was curious about the book that she clutched to her chest like it was equally the most precious treasure and the worst thing on the planet. “What are you reading?” he asked with that same curiosity that was written all over his face, “I.. uh.. I can’t read but I like to listen. Could you read it to me while we walk to the healers?” Brave.
He didn’t usually tell people he couldn’t read or even write really but he didn’t want her to feel bad about falling down and hurting herself. He chuckled at her slightly backhanded thanks and shook his head. “Would I have knocked you over if you hadn’t run into me?” he asked her with a teasing wink. His steps were slow and concise, he didn’t want to drop her and nodded towards the book again. “Well?” he asked with a bit of a hopeful tone, “Will you read it to me?”
