R’nya was watching everything quietly from his spot beside Rhaedalyn, his gaze shifting over Cazan and Malvayth, the Candidates, the crowds watching in the stands; he didn’t want any more mishaps or upsets and wanted to make sure he was aware of everything that was happening. Xyreith was also on watch, and he could feel the mild emotions from his bronze. They were reassuring, as they were meant to be.
The green first had R’nya sighing in mild exasperation. He honestly couldn’t remember when the last clutch had started with a bronze or brown first. It was always the greens! Nothing he could do about it, of course, but it was a superstition he believed in and was marked further as true when the brown hatched and caused a mess. R’nya was relieved the dragon found his mate relatively quickly and before too much damage was done, his expression flat as his lips were pursed, watching silently. We’ll have to watch that pair, he said to Xyreith, watching as they made their way to the sidelines. The young man was one of the ones on D’hys’ watch list.
A couple more greens followed, and R’nya almost smiled at their antics, watching as they harmlessly found their mates. If only all the babies were so quick and tidy about Impressing, there would be a lot less stress for everyone involved in the Hatching process! Then there was a blue charging at Quinvalis and R’nd sucked in a breath, leaning forward anxiously as he tried to prepare himself for a repeat of the last time such a thing had happened; how was he going to survive the guilt? Quilriana would surely want to take Quinvalis home. R’nya cringed, refusing to look towards where he knew his lover was sitting with the man she’d arrived with.
Instead, R’nya’s breath caught when the dragonet started doing laps around Quinvalis, and before he could stop himself, R’nya gave a cheer of success when the bond was apparent, spinning around to wrap Rhaedalyn up in a gleeful hug of success for the boy – young man – that was more or less their unofficial foster son. R’nya kissed Rhaedalyn briefly, before turning back to watch as Quinvalis – N’lis – lead his little dragon off to the sides to go through the motions of post Impression. “Well done,” R’nya said softly, mostly to himself, as the pair settled in to eat. His pale gaze flickered to Quilriana, and R’nya flashed her a proud smile, thrilled for Quin—N’lis – before his attention was forced to return to the eggs that were still waiting to Hatch.
