Left on circuit... a horse, a cliff... some of those seemed right, but everything was still so very hazy. Vondal suppose he had nearly drowned, the sailors had told him as much when he'd woken up sputtering and coughing on the deck of the ship. If he was out on circuit that would explain why he had a sewing kit strapped to his belt. But then she was angry and he flinched, trying to pull away from a moment before she tugged on his hand more firmly, turning it over with even more of a scowl.
Vondal was speechless, staring at her dumbly. Wife? The room was starting to spin, his breathing sped up while everything else seemed to slow down. He'd been married? How was that even possible? He was gay! He was... not as sure of it as he had been before as he took a moment to look over Helyna again. He tried to speak but only a hoarse croak escaped him and he swallowed, trying to focus for a moment before trying again. "Wife? We were married? I thought... I didn't think... how? When? I don't... I don't remember. The ship found me and I didn't know anything... I only knew my name because it was embroidered on my kit." And even then he hadn't been completely sure it really was his name and not just something he'd stolen or borrowed. But this woman... Helyna... she recognized him.
Tiny bits and pieces started to come back to him, mostly fragments without context, but one of them made his lip twitch in a smile. He had a scar on his leg that people frequently asked him about but he could never explain, only now he could. "You pushed me out of a tree... I remember that... wait. Wait! You have a son? Is... do I have a son?"
