Month 05, 741 AL

North: Late Spring | South: Late Autumn
9.9 C to 18.4 C | 13.7 C to 24.5 C

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Month 12, 739 AL
North: Early Winter| South: Early Summer
-3.1 to 2.1 C | 20.4 C to 29.4 C

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Month 07, 739 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are getting a lot of rain, thunderstorms, and cloudy days. Grass is growing, flowers flowering, and baby animals popping up all over the place! Yay spring!

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

September 2018

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

As always, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

If you haven't already, please drop by the Dragonrider Weyr Allocations thread, and let us know where your dragonriders call home. We are hoping to set up Wings across the three PC Weyrs over the next month or so, and your assistance is much appreciated! As a result, we will be looking for Wingleaders, Wingseconds, and of course Candidates for the clutches we have scheduled for this year!

August 2018

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

July 2018

July was July-y.

June 2018

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! It could be an innocent date with some - *gasp* - hand holding!

This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! The Hatching will take place in October so you have a lot of time to get Candidates created, approved, and posting up a storm!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

April 2018

Well, it’s halfway through the month which shows you how awful I am at keeping this stuff up to date, haha. Due to my slackness, there is no event this month, but the month of May will be hosting ’Lost Belongings’ wherein characters should find something they – or someone else – lost.

In the meantime, gold Okalinath of Kahleena has taken to the skies! You can find her Flight thread taking place on the 4th, here Currently, there is no planned winner, so be sure to throw your bronzes and browns her way! They do not need to be natives to Telgar Weyr to participate!

March 2018

Welcome to March, my friends!

Unfortunately, this month we don’t have any events set up, so we encourage you to wrap up threads and create some personal plots! Next month will be bringing in a new monthly event (Lost Belongings!) so you can always set your character up for that! If you have ideas for future Events, you can submit them here!. Additionally, you can see upcoming events here!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! It’s the month of loooove my loves! Welcome to February! In order to celebrate the delights of Valentine Day, please take a peek at our active event, ‘Date Night’! This event is active for the duration of February, so be sure to start your thread before the end of the month!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list!

January 2018

Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

With the end of December, our Christmas layout has gone back into hiding! You'll be able to use it again at the end of the year, when Christmas again rolls around. You can expect a new layout for the site in the near future.

December 2017

And so it is December! Can’t believe how fast this year is flying by! At any rate, we have LOTS of fun for you this month! For starters, why don’t you sign up for our Secret Santa Event! Pairs will be assigned on the 14th! You can sign your character(s) up as a Giver, a Receiver or Both! We also hope that you enjoy our Christmas layout, which will be available for use for the entire month of December! After that, it will go into hiding until next Christmas!

We will also be awarding the HORRIFYING MOMENTS stamps to those who qualified for them, as well as the WORDS OF THE MONTH for November. We hope you enjoyed these Events, and you can expect more of them in the upcoming year!

This month we will also be focusing on the RP Records, and request you submit all your threads here so we can update the Timeline! As it says in the thread, the Timeline will be updated every month, in the first week. To help us maintain, be sure to submit your threads as soon as you open them!

November 2017

Welcome to November! We'd love it if you would take the time to Vote in our Horrifying Moments threads! We will also be awarding Stamps for people who vote, not just those who took part! We hope you enjoyed this event as much as we did! You can see the Stamps that will be awarded in the Horrifying Moment's thread.

This month we are doing a 'Words of the Month' event! You can choose your word/s as indicated in the thread, and may particpate with as many characters as you desire! This contest has no voting to earn stamps; you get a stamp just for participating! Enjoy!

October 2017

Welcome to October! As part of our Halloween celebrations, the Horrifying Moments event is now open! You may START a thread at any point during the month of October to qualify it for the event! We hope you have a lot of fun with this event, and we look forward to reading your threads! Don't forget to "Like" the threads you enjoy most, so we can award someone the MOST HORRIFYING stamp! Stamps will be revealed later in the month!

September 2017

Welcome to September! This month, we're working on our Awards for the site! We are also advertising avidly! Please welcome any guests or new members with all that warm charm we know you all posess! That said, we are still seeking Affiliates, so if you're here to drop an ad, please consider us!

Our next PC Clutch will be in the new year, so now is the pefect time to join with old candidates (how many clutches have they stood for now?!) and candidate hopefuls! Get those eager young men and women out there and grow them so we can match them with their perfect lifemate when the new year rolls around and one of our lovely golds throws a clutch on the Sands -- At this point in time, the Weyrs are sharing Candidates, so your Candidate can be Searched by any Weyr, and transfer to the one holding the PC clutch!

August 2017

We are officially open for our relaunch, and are excited to meet and greet new RPers! We're currently looking for all types of characters, including Weyrleaders and goldriders! But we also have lots of room for green and blueriders, weyrfolk, candidates, and all types of Hall folk, such as Masters, Journeymen and Apprentices. If you have any questions, feel free to hit us up in the Cbox or Discord chats, which can be found on the lower part of the screen.

July 2017

We are currently having an event to Create Adoptables! And encourage everyone to take part!

History is almost complete, and the profile has been re-coded. All new characters will need to go onto the new profile, but all old can keep their current! We'll begin advertising properly over the next couple of weeks, once the history has been completed, and probably after the weekend of the 8th and 9th, because that is when ThistleProse is having her birthday.

June 2017

We are on the brink of relaunching! Our history is being rewritten and cleaned up! We are accepting new members, and old! Our advertisment has been re-written, and will be put out there soon. We are also accepting affiliates of all descriptions, genres and themes! If you would like to affiliate with us, please go here
We officially have two layouts! You can post here with any issues you find, or request any changes!

May 2017

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

April 2017

The layout is almost complete, but there is still a lot of work to be done; documents are being written up and can be found in the Site Map menu opion. Players can begin to move their characters' information to their Account Profiles, but be aware some changes may still be made and/or added.
If you find any bugs or issues, plese repot them here, and we will do our best to fix them in a timely manner.

"This is all your fault! You and your stupid flight... and it's not a game! I didn't win anything! NOW I'M JUST FAT!" Cazan was shouting at the enormous gold dragon that she normally loved, though she wasn't sure how the conversation had started or how it had escalated to this point. YOU ARE THE WORST MIND MATE! YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS THAT MY EGGS ARE GOING TO BE BETTER THAN YOURS AND THAT MY DADDY IS BIGGER AND STRONGER! Malvayth screeched in return for everyone to hear because if Cazan was going to shout then so was she.

"I'M A PERSON I DON'T HAVE EGGS!" THAT'S WHY MINE ARE BETTER! "No that's why you're stupid!" Mal let out a screeching roar at the insult. How dare her rider think and say such terrible things?! She was going to shout more when a low grumbling warning growl emanated from the far side of the sands where her mother was curled around her own clutch.

Malvayth turned her back on Cazan, curling as tightly as her swelling belly would allow her to as her anger gave way to sadness. "Mal! Come on-" another growl made Caz wince and lower her voice as she moved cautiously closer to her gold. "Hey... hey I'm sorry... I'm just... I'm not feeling well and it's making me say and do things that I don't really mean and you're not really stupid..."

I'm getting fat too... I don't know how well I could fly even if I wasn't grounded. Mal lifted her head and turned to spot Quinvalis, they'd missed his arrival during their argument. Do you think I'm getting fat? she asked him, her brief moment of rage displaced by self-consciousness.

Cazan immediately cringed as she saw the candidate. "Oh hey, how long were you there for? Um... I... brought you a gift?" That was a good distraction from the embarrassing outburst. She went to grab the jacket that had set off the discovery of her pregnancy. It was too tight for her, but it had been easy enough to adjust for him.

How long had he been standing there? Too long. Definitely too long. Not that it would have mattered with how loud they were—Malvayth especially. Quinvalis wouldn’t be surprised if everyone in at least this half of the Weyr heard her booming voice in their heads and maybe even some of what Cazan had been screaming. It was kind of impressive but also rather scary. It was a good reminder as to why he often found the goldrider to be intimidating.

As Cazan distracted herself with a gift, Quinvalis moved on from silently gawking with wide eyes to moving to silently moving to the dragon where he laid a hand on her side. “You’re not fat, Malvayth,” he soothed, petting her gently. “You’re proudly carrying your eggs.” His mother had always taught him to be polite and to keep his mouth shut if he couldn’t. But he meant what he said to the self-conscious dragon.

“And you didn’t have to bring me any gifts,” Quinvalis turned from Malvayth to see what Cazan was up to. He was back to gawking when she held up the jacket. He did say he wouldn’t mind modelling for her so this was probably for that reason and it looked very nice. He’d honestly kind of forgotten until that moment that he had offered to help in that way and assumed at the time he’d wear random pieces she had once in a while. Nothing that he would keep and he only assumed that now with her saying it was a gift.

His shyness took over and he looked down at the sand and shook his head slightly. “Thank you, Cazan, but I couldn’t possibly accept something so nice.” It wasn’t the first gift he’d been given that month and while the first one left him stunned and unable to thank the girl or question her further for giving him the pendant, he found his voice this time and felt he’d done nothing to earn such an item.

Malvayth let out a small relieved breath before giving Quinvalis a careful and gentle touch of her nose. Proudly carrying eggs was much better than being fat! Maybe Cazan would come around and see it that way too, but she was still annoyed with her rider enough that she wasn't about to bring it up quite yet. Still she was pleased with Quinvalis's assessment of her increasing girth and she was already beginning to forget the little spat as she stretched out in preparation for her oiling.

There was the incredible impulse to snipe at the dragon one last time but Cazan resisted the urge, fingers sliding along the seams of the leather jacket she'd made to bring her back into focus. She raised an eyebrow at the attempted rejection of her gift. "Well for one, I know I didn't have to, that's why it's a gift and not some sort of tribute or payment. Second, you can accept something so nice. That's actually why you should accept it."

You should take it. Cazan makes such nice things, Mal said to him with another gentle nudge; even when upset she appreciate her rider's talent and skills. There was a small annoyed whirl in her eyes as she picked up another one of her rider's impulses. She might throw it at you otherwise.

Cazan meanwhile, did not throw the item, though she did eye Quinvalis as if she were considering it. Instead she walked over and started to just try draping it over his shoulders directly. "Here, you have to take it now, you've touched it." Once it was secure enough she could trust it wouldn't just fall she released her grip on the item and went to go grab the oiling supplies.

Quinvalis didn't think that was how it worked, but he gave a little laugh at the logic all the same, "thank you, Cazan. It really is amazing." He slipped the jacket on properly and admired the way it looked on him and how nice it felt. "I'll be ready to go for that ride we'll go on later, Malvayth." She was always so excited for flying and Quinvalis knew how hard being grounded was on her. But he was helping her with patience and they would have a good flight soon enough.

He showed off the jacket for the pair with a final twirl before taking it off to help with the oiling. As he picked up the rag, Quinvalis hesitated, not sure he should say anything but finally figured it would only result in a snarl or glare. "I don't mind doing all of the oiling today if you'd like a break, Cazan. The healer said it's good exercise for me as well." He added the last part quickly, hoping to avoid the snarling. He didn't want Cazan to think he was babying her because she was pregnant--though he supposed he kind of was--but giving her an excuse to put some distance between the pair to let tempers calm down.

And it really was good exercise for him. The wounds had long since healed and he was left with faint scars but the muscles still needed to be worked and stretched and tending to a dragon was the right level of strenuous activity.

Cazan smiled when he finally accepted the gift and took a moment to study how the jacket fit and draped over his form as he moved around in it. It looked good, and for a moment she remembered that it was supposed to have been for her before she started to get too fat. And she'd only be getting fatter and never be able to make such nice things for herself again. It was an uncomfortable mental lurch that was starting to be familiar and she tried to focus on not spiraling into either getting into another fight or crying fit.

"I'm really glad that you like it, and it suits you. You'll look absolutely fabulous riding on Mal as she takes you for a spin. Once she's done with the sands." Caz went to grab a rag to help but then paused to eye Quin suspiciously as he suggested handling it on his own. Was he trying to send her away on purpose? Was he plotting with Mal? Was she starting to look that fat? The exercising made sense at least... and taking a break would give her some time to go curl up in bed and maybe have some toast and a nap, or a soothing bath to try and calm herself down a bit more.

She sighed and nodded, remembering that Quinvalis was a very pleasant and polite young man who had never given her reason to be upset before. This was probably just an honest offer to help. "That would be really nice of you, Quin. Thanks you. Maybe I'll take a bath and try to relax a little. People have been telling me I need to do more of that lately."

Malvayth waited until Cazan had left the sands before turning her attention to her friend. I always like it when you come to see me. How are you?

A breath of relief was given when Cazan gave in and took the chance to relax. He really did want to make sure she was doing well and not over extending herself mentally or physically. He was too young to remember his mom pregnant with Quilista but he had been around Rhaedalyn when she carried the twins. She still tried to do so much but always relented and let him and R'nya help with Aradissicath.

"I like our visits as well. I've been well. Been doing a lot of thinking." He started applying the oil along her side. Now that the eggs were growing, Quinvalis worried Malvayth would need more oiling than they had already upped her to. "You better tell me where all the super itchy spots are."

He dunked the rag in the bucket for more oil and went back to a patch he noticed seemed dry. "And you're doing okay? Did you plan your puppet play with Taith yet?"

Thinking? Thinking is good! Right? Or is it the broody worried thinking some people do? Malvayth had noticed that sometimes when Cazan was thinking it was just about her work, other times it was about T'ryn or one of her other playmates, and then other times it was the sort of annoying terrible worry where she started to get sad or angry. Mal didn't think that Quin had a wrestle friend like that, but it was possible she hadn't noticed or he hadn't told her. He could have also been thinking about the children he watched or oiling her!

She obliged his request with her tail, pointing out particularly itchy spots on her swelling belly with the tip of it so that Quinvalis could get all the right spots. Malvayth let out a low pleased rumble as the candidate attended to the spot. She brightened at the mention of the play she'd been trying to plan with her brother. I have! Taith and I were going to make something about how Kor'is and Cazan became friends! We're adding some pretend to it though, they became friends trying to stop the Black Dragon Gang!

Mal was absolutely excited about that and continued to softly babble for a bit, Lady is going to play me and Rudi is going to be Taith, and we're going to ask Cazan to make them little masks and vests for costumes! The gold dragon was so proud of her idea, and adding the little bit of pretend elements would just add some more fun! She turned back to Quinvalis, thinking again about how much he could be thinking about and asked, Were you just thinking about the puppet play? Or was there more?

Quinvalis gave a little shrug in answer to what type of thinking he was doing. He hadn’t decided if it was good thinking or brooding but it seemed like maybe it was somewhere in the middle. So he focused on the itchy spots and smiled at Malvayth’s babbling about the play planning. It sounded like it would be a good show and even with the added pretend stuff, it still sounded a bit accurate. It was due to the black dragon stunt that Cazan and Kor’is were friends now. He hadn’t asked for details about how it actually happened but he’d noticed they weren’t snarking at each other that much now.

“I’m thinking about the puppet play now,” Quinvalis laughed, happy to stay on the topic for now. It definitely wasn’t the original reason for all of his thinking lately but he could honestly say it was now all that was on his mind. “I can’t wait to see the little costumes. Are you and Taith going to do the voices for Rudi and Lady? Oh! You could perform for your babies soon after they hatch! That would be a lot of fun and it would help inspire them to be as creative as their mother.”

Quinvalis moved further down to work on the next section of belly. He was so glad he didn’t have a large dragon of his own to oil regularly. He liked helping out on Malvayth but he was thankful it was unlikely he’d Impress one so large—maybe a bronze, but he’d hope for a small one. And that reminded him of the brooding portion of the thinking he’d been doing lately but he shoved it away to think about puppets entertaining tiny dragonets.

It will be a good play! I hope. And we might do the voices! Or we might just let them make little roaring sounds on their own. As if to demonstrate, Lady lifted her head lazily up from where she'd been curled up on top of Mal to let out a sleepy, almost squeaky, roar. Once the firelizard settled back into her camouflaged napping position on top of Malvayth's head, the dragon happily started to babble about the little puppets and how she was thinking of including some fantastical elements like magic so that the painter character could make the black dragons harmless by washing away their colors.

The mention of her babies did make Mal pause for a moment though. She knew they had been planning on moving to Telgar for a while, but she hadn't thought about how soon after the hatching and what that would mean for her little brood. We are moving sometime after the hatching. I don't know if it will be after Cazan has her eggs or before. I will try to make sure we can put on at least one show for the babies before that, and maybe tell Aradissicath so she can tell the story too.

Malvayth eyed Quinvalis curiously for a moment and then added, Once we can go between I will visit you. And I will still take you on a good ride.

The more Malvayth explained her ideas and talked about the play, the more Quinvalis was curious to see it. He’d sat in on some of Rhaedalyn’s story times when he was helping with her daughters and even Aradissicath’s stories and it was fun to see what the dragons would come up with and their take on how some things worked. “I’ll definitely be there for your first show. I have to see Lady’s big acting debut after all.” He was still smiling from her little roar.

But the smile faded when the move was mentioned again. He knew they were moving to Telgar, it was only natural given T’ryn lived there and his dragon was mated to that Weyrwoman. And now there was a baby to consider. He didn’t have any ill will toward the gold pair for doing what was best for them but he would miss seeing them regularly. Despite the years spent in the Weyr, Quinvalis still struggled to make friends, always hanging around the edges instead of joining in the fray. “You’re only going to visit when you’re itchy,” he teased and slathered oil on the next spot to prove his point of how good he was at the job.

He continued working, mostly in silence since sometimes even Malvayth seemed to enjoy it before glancing over at Aradissicath napping protectively around her clutch. That would be Malvayth in about a month and soon after that, the Hatching. “Are you excited to meet your babies? I bet they’re an energetic bunch like their mother. And they’ll be amazing flyers!” Malvayth was great in the sky and Yanth proved he was just as good with the way he kept up and claimed the victory for the Flight. But they would have to get through the Hatching first before they learned their personalities and what they excelled at and that was the scarier part.

I will visit more than just when I'm itchy. And maybe you can visit me too one day. Malvayth considered for a moment and then added, Unless you want to move to Telgar too. Then you could visit more. She wasn't worried either way, she had her brother coming along, and T'ryn was already going to be there too. Between already having those two there, Mal was sure she would make new friends in their new home.

She settled in comfortably as Quinvalis continued to oil her, occasionally tapping the next itchy spot with the tip of her tail, but otherwise just enjoying the pampering. She already had forgotten how grumpy Cazan had been and all the shouting.

Malvayth gave an enthusiastic nod in response to the question about her babies. Yes! I don't know how many eggs I will have but more than Cazan! I have more room, and she is too small for that sort of thing. She made a soft, happy crooning sound as she continued to think about the possibilities. I hope they are all good and strong flyers. Maybe one of them will pick you, if you haven't already been picked by then. You are a very good person, I will whisper them stories about you in their eggs.

“I’ll consider a move but Fort Weyr is my home, I think,” Telgar region was where he was born and raised and his mom did the best she could with the circumstances but she’d also given him a shot at a better life by letting him go to Fort Weyr. And R’nya was practically his dad—at least in his mind. Quinvalis doubted the Weyrleader saw him as a son. Moving Weyrs or even moving back to the tavern were other things he had kind of thought about when he wasn’t sure he could Stand again.

Malvayth promising to tell her babies about him was typical Malvayth and he was smiling as he gave her side a pat. “You’re too good to me but I have a confession.” The itchiest spots seemed to have all been tackled so Quinvalis took a break, tossing the rag in the bucket and stealing Cazan’s cushion since she wasn’t there. “I’m not sure if I’ll Stand again, Mal.” There. He said it. It felt kind of nice to finally tell someone that without skirting around it and using his injuries as an excuse. He glanced over at Aradissicath and knew the gold likely wasn’t fast asleep and might hear him but he also knew Aradissicath would only share what she heard if she felt it was necessary.

“I’m scared. I keep getting badly injured and almost died the last time I Stood. I don’t think I can do it again.” His voice was low, ashamed of what he was saying no matter how much weight was already lifting from his shoulders. “What if next time I do die? What if I’ve used up all of my luck…” being left with scars that he hid under long sleeves didn’t seem too lucky but Quinvalis was well aware that he was lucky to be alive. He’d heard that enough from the healers and others gossiping about him. Zarel hadn’t surprised him when she said kids in the crèche were even talking about him. He was simply used to it.

Malvayth's tail twitched, the tip flicking from one side to another as she listened to the confession. Once he'd finished she took a look around as if trying to check for any eavesdroppers and leaned her head in close as she whispered, You have to keep this a secret. Cazan is afraid the ghosts will catch her while she's between. So if she can be afraid of something then maybe it's okay for you to be afraid of things. You say you're lucky, so I think any of my babies would be lucky to have you.

She stretched her body almost lazily across the warm sands and curled her tail around Quinvalis in a sort of hug. If you do Stand I will try to tell my babies to be careful, and to not be sad or upset if you run away from them. Mal vaguely remembered being upset when she first found Cazan, there had been a lot of confusion, her rider had tried to hide from her and send her away, but things had gotten much better afterwards.

Curious, Malvayth gave him a gentle nudge of her nose and asked, What would you do if you didn't Stand anymore?

Quinvalis grinned and barely managed to hold back a laugh at the secret. He almost pointed out that ghosts weren’t real but he hated to crush Malvayth’s fun and Cazan wouldn’t believe him anyway. People were very set in their beliefs—just like he was set in his fear. He rested a hand on the tail surrounding him, appreciating the gesture for what it was. Hugs were always nice and sometimes he missed the ones from his mother despite his age and how much that made him a mama’s boy.

“I don’t think I’ll Stand for Aradissicath’s clutch but maybe I’ll try for yours.” He couldn’t make a complete promise but that was still a couple of months away and Malvayth was doing her best to make it a safe time for him so he owed her at least a little extra thought on the matter. Besides, what else was there for him if he didn’t become a dragonrider?

“Maybe I could work in the kitchen or help with cleaning. I used to help out at my uncle’s tavern with food prep and keeping the place clean. Mom got me harper lessons as well so I could help in the crèche and read to them and teach them some basic things.” He certainly didn’t have anything to go back to in Telgar. One side of the family had already taken away the farm that would have been his and the other side always seemed worried he would ask for more than he was due at the tavern. He really didn’t have anything but the Weyr and he was old enough to be forging his own path anyway. He couldn’t go back to his uncle now.

Malvayth was delighted at the possibility of Quinvalis Standing for her babies. The fact that he was going to shun one clutch in favor of hers only added to the feeling that her babies were special. It would be nice I think. Will you at least come see them even if you don't Stand? You can watch from somewhere safe so that you can see them. I am sure they will all be very handsome.

Her clutch could be nothing less than beautiful after all, there was no room in her mind for any other possibility. Yanth will be proud of them too, I think. He did a good job winning the game, and he will be able to help teach them important things as they grow! It was nice to know that her big brown daddy would be there to help their babies get a good start in life, even if she was moving away.

I think next time Taith and I try to go on a sneak thief adventure I will ask you for help so you can get the cake outside. I bet we wouldn't have been caught then. But even if you were not a sneak thief adventurer I think you would do well. You could be a good teacher.

“If I find I can’t Stand, I’ll still come and support you and Cazan.” They had been kind to him and even if he couldn’t bring himself to get close to the eggs, he’d still be there as support. It was Malvayth’s first clutch! How could he not attend it? Quinvalis also wondered if she was secretly scared about clutching and then making sure her babies all hatched and didn’t maul anyone. Then again, Malvayth was a tad on the naïve side and maybe didn’t know what to expect for any of it, though Aradissicath had recently clutched.

“I’m not sure how much help I would be for your sneak thieving but I’ll lend a hand if I can,” Cazan wouldn’t like knowing her dragon was still considering a life of crime but Quinvalis didn’t want to be the one to tell her. Maybe he was already practicing as a sneak thief adventurer by not pointing it out and that made him smile. He was still worried about what could happen on the Sands he was currently having fun on but Malvayth had helped lift his spirits a bit. That meant she had earned a treat.

“Think Lady would like to be oiled while I tell you a story? Did you want to hear the prince of thieves one again?” Maybe he was helping to inspire her sneak thief adventures and Quinvalis grinned at the thought.

Hopefully you can Stand, but at least you'll be there either way. Malvayth thought his response was more than acceptable, and so long as he was there she was confident one of her babies would find him if it needed to. She'd found Cazan hiding away from the other candidates after all! She was sure that nothing was going to go wrong and that Quinvalis would be safe. She was going to have perfect babies and they would each find their lifemates and grow up to be strong and happy.

Mal let out a soft amused grumble. You will be a big help. You have hands for carefully picking up cake, and you can fit through doors! Even Taith was too big to fit though the door to the cake room. But the heist will have to wait until later. I'm still behaving right now.

Upon hearing her name, Lady lifted her head and chirped curiously, and after a gentle mental nudge from the much larger gold she hopped down, daintily settling in on Quinvalis's lap. She melted with a soft purr as soon as he began to oil her and Malvayth let out another pleased chuckle grumble. The prince of thieves is always so much fun. I would like to hear that one again, please. She adjusted so she could curl around Quinvalis, settling in comfortably for her story, glad that he'd come along to make her day better.
