Helyna sighed; clearly Cazan wouldn’t accept this easily. “Even with Malvayth on the Sands it’s not impossible to get seen by a Healer. It’s a simple thing to check for.” She leveled her friend with a look. “Surely your mother explained all this when your courses started.” Though, maybe not, she considered. Maybe her mother would have saved that conversation for when Cazan was wedded and bedded.
“Were you taking something from the Healers? That sort of thing doesn’t always work, though it is better than nothing. Or was T’ryn taking you between after you were together?” The blank look that earned her was concerning.
She stood up and caught the girl by the shoulders to stop her pacing. “Just think about it. How long have you been ‘sick’? When did it all start?” Helyna tried again, “regardless, it’s nothing to be ashamed of, Cazan. Life can be inconvenient sometimes. Goodness knows I was surprised when I got pregnant with Vondlyn.”
