Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL

17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

"I'm getting fat!" Cazan followed the declaration with a scowl before she took a nice soothing sip of mint tea. "It doesn't even make sense, I should know my measurements, and I've barely been able to eat anything for a while now with whatever stomach bug I have."

The stomach bug that had been plaguing Cazan was beginning to fray her nerves. She found herself occasionally starving and sneaking down to raid the kitchens for some of the oddest snacks, or she could barely stomach anything at all other than tea and crackers or occasionally a bit of buttered toast. She was sure it was having an effect on her mood, she'd started to get snippier, more frustrated. Sometimes she wanted to just cry in her weyr and that was completely unacceptable as far as she was concerned. Finding out the jacket she'd been making for herself was too snug around her belly and chest to be comfortable had been the last straw.

She vented about all of this to Helyna as she got up and moved to her desk to grab her notebook and measuring tape. This was the real reason she had asked her friend to visit. In addition to being good company during stressful times, she could trust the woman to know how to take her measurements properly. "I think I'm just going to finish the jacket I'm already working on for Kor'is or Quinvalis, but I need to know exactly how fat I've gotten so that I can make a different one. Could you measure me? Oh, and I do have those things I was working on for you wrapped up and ready to go too. I think the addition of lace worked out really well."

Helyna had made time to go visit Cazan after another upset letter made its way to her. The young woman had been having a rough time after the shock of Malvayth’s unexpected Flight, which Helyna couldn’t help but sympathize with. They’d been writing letters back and forth, but had fallen out of touch in the last week or two, so the moodiness was a bit of a shock at first. However, as Cazan ranted and Helyna got a good look at her, things started to become clearer.

She accepted the tape and the book, but set them on the table again and took Cazan by the hand instead. “You know I’m happy to help you with those any time, of course. But I think you’ll find that they’ll change again rapidly in the coming weeks.” The look Cazan shot her was venomous, and Helyna hastened to add, “It’s a perfectly natural part of being pregnant, Cazan.”

Any other day, on any other person, the combination of expressions that passed over Cazan’s face would have had Helyna in a fit of laughter. Did she truly not know? “It’s a common side effect of sleeping with men, dear. And much more logical than a stomach bug that makes your weight go up and your chest ache.”

What the fuck was Helyna doing? You needed the tape to measure, Cazan didn't care how many people claimed they could just eyeball it and get it right. She needed precision! She needed to be less fat! She needed to figure out why her friend was trying to insinuate that she was going to get even more fat! Clearly she first needed to clean her ears out because she definitely did not hear Helyna correctly.

Except she was sure she did hear the woman, because pregnant wasn't one of those words that could accidentally sound like another one. Cazan's angry glare shifted towards confusion and then her eyes widened a bit. No. No, no, no. That wasn't how things worked. That wasn't how things were supposed to work. And then as if she could read her mind, Helyna tried to correct her by reminding her that was, in fact, exactly how things were supposed to work.

"Wha... no. That's not. You are most definitely wrong." She hastily pulled her hand away and started to pace angrily. "I am not pregnant! This is just... just some stupid disease. I've just been too busy to see a healer to get it taken care of. That's all." What type of joke did Helyna think this was? It certainly wasn't funny.

Helyna sighed; clearly Cazan wouldn’t accept this easily. “Even with Malvayth on the Sands it’s not impossible to get seen by a Healer. It’s a simple thing to check for.” She leveled her friend with a look. “Surely your mother explained all this when your courses started.” Though, maybe not, she considered. Maybe her mother would have saved that conversation for when Cazan was wedded and bedded.

“Were you taking something from the Healers? That sort of thing doesn’t always work, though it is better than nothing. Or was T’ryn taking you between after you were together?” The blank look that earned her was concerning.

She stood up and caught the girl by the shoulders to stop her pacing. “Just think about it. How long have you been ‘sick’? When did it all start?” Helyna tried again, “regardless, it’s nothing to be ashamed of, Cazan. Life can be inconvenient sometimes. Goodness knows I was surprised when I got pregnant with Vondlyn.”

"Of course my mother told me about stuff! I'm not an idiot!" Cazan scowled. She'd sat through the boring lessons about how to be a good wife, and... promptly ignored and forgotten them all since she'd been so determined to just avoid that fate entirely. Her habit of zoning out during lessons she didn't care about was going to bite her one day. If it already hadn't.

No. None of that was right. And what did between have anything to do with all of this? Oh... wait... N'reh had mentioned something about that once upon a time when he was telling her all about the dragon sex fiend stuff before she'd impressed...

The grab had her attention snapping back to Helyna and the present moment. Cazan's thoughts whirled. "I... a bit ago? Wha..." She shook her head suddenly, still vehemently in denial. This wasn't up for debate, this wasn't even allowed. She was just sick and Helyna was just being terrible and before she could even properly think her mouth was moving. "No! I am not pregnant! Maybe you got pregnant because you're some sort of baby making whore, but I'm not! I'm too busy! I can't be pregnant!"

Helyna’s eyes flashed angrily and she reacted before she could think, slapping Cazan. “Fuck you. From what I hear, I’m not the slut out of the two of us.” She stepped away, her whole body on edge.

“You are an idiot. Just because it’s inconvenient doesn’t mean it’s not true. And you should know by now that I only sleep with men when Iliyith has her Flights and it’s not possible to avoid. I’m loyal to Tala.”

She stormed back over to the table and snatched up the measuring tape. “But if the only way to prove it to you is with numbers, take off your damn jacket and I’ll measure you. By the looks of it your tits are several sizes larger and you’ve added inches to your waist through this mysterious illness” Her dark eyebrow arched high, challenging. “I’ll even measure you again in a week, and the week after that.”

In a way the slap literally knocked some sense into Cazan, her blood pumping and her mind clearing for a quick instant to evaluate the situation. This wasn't a proper fight, and even if it was she wasn't about to punch a woman. But she'd still been slapped... her cheek stung a little but mostly it had been loud, sudden, and very startling. What had she done to piss Helyna off?

Cazan was quiet as she listened, rubbing her face in confusion with her brow furrowed. Oh... that was probably a good reason to get slapped... though she was sure she didn't say anything about Helyna being disloyal... or... well she supposed calling the woman a whore would do that. She flushed slightly, shoulders slumping. "I didn't mean it like that... and also you really need to learn to hit harder. How are you going to defend yourself if some asshole tries to do anything?"

She shrugged off her jacket with a grumble. "And you don't need to come back in a week, just... give me the measurements and if you're right and I've gotten that much fatter I'll at least go see a healer. Sorry I'm being such an asshole I just... my stomach has been bugging me and I've been stressed. I don't really think you're a whore." Cazan added a small grumble as she added, "Still don't think I'm pregnant..."
