Helyna had made time to go visit Cazan after another upset letter made its way to her. The young woman had been having a rough time after the shock of Malvayth’s unexpected Flight, which Helyna couldn’t help but sympathize with. They’d been writing letters back and forth, but had fallen out of touch in the last week or two, so the moodiness was a bit of a shock at first. However, as Cazan ranted and Helyna got a good look at her, things started to become clearer.
She accepted the tape and the book, but set them on the table again and took Cazan by the hand instead. “You know I’m happy to help you with those any time, of course. But I think you’ll find that they’ll change again rapidly in the coming weeks.” The look Cazan shot her was venomous, and Helyna hastened to add, “It’s a perfectly natural part of being pregnant, Cazan.”
Any other day, on any other person, the combination of expressions that passed over Cazan’s face would have had Helyna in a fit of laughter. Did she truly not know? “It’s a common side effect of sleeping with men, dear. And much more logical than a stomach bug that makes your weight go up and your chest ache.”
