Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL

17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

Cazan had spent all morning and most of the rest of the day working on the pencil roll and matching case. They were made of thin supple leather, darkened with oils and leather conditioners but otherwise left in a more natural state. She didn't know Kor'is well enough to try to decorate it further, and despite feeling bad enough about the fight that she was making it in the first place, she wasn't sure she wanted to add anything more.

But what if he wants it to be prettier? He's an artist! Malvayth was delighted about the gift, hopeful that it meant maybe Cazan and Kor'is could be friends. She could spend more time with Taith then! The dragon's glee was enough to make her rider not completely dismiss the idea. Instead Caz sighed as she relented, "I'll offer to add some tooling to it if he wants."

Malvayth gave a small pleased chirp which Lady immediately imitated. Cazan reached up to stroke her dragon's neck, and soon after Lady hopped down from her high perch for some pets of her own. She indulged them both with some more affection before giving the roll and case another quick check for any imperfections. As much as she didn't want to care about what Kor'is would think about the gift, she wanted everything to be perfect to satisfy her own pride.

They're here! Malvayth announced as she spotted her brother and his rider. Hi, Taith! Cazan made a gift! Cazan waited until Kor'is had set up his cushion before she walked over, her gift in hand. "Hey," she said, hand raising in a small wave once she got closer. "I just wanted to apologize for the fight, so I made you something. You don't have to keep it of you don't want to." Cazan felt a bit foolish about the whole thing, especially when she remembered Mal's suggestion. But she already felt like she had said too much so she just started to turn and walk away once she set the items down. Malvayth added to Taith, If he wants it to be prettier Cazan can hammer and carve designs and pictures on it!

Hiii! Taith chirped in greeting as he trotted over to see his sister. He liked spending time with her in general but every day he had to check to see if she was getting bigger and if he could see the eggs poking her belly yet. Still nothing, though Kor’is had warned him it would take a while still before any noticeable changes happened. Did she? She’s so nice! He watched Cazan approach Kor’is and held his breath as he waited for how his rider would react to the gesture.

Kor’is studied Cazan’s face more than the gift she came bearing, noting that he had left some marks on her, though not nearly as bad as she had done to him. He had a sore hand, a swollen lip, a black eye, and a headache that had lasted through breakfast. Yet Cazan had managed to do some leather work while he had planned to mediate or some shit that the Weyrwoman and Weyrlingmaster would appreciate because he wasn’t in the mood or shape to draw.

He eyed the pieces that she set down and then watched her walk away. Was this how she fixed every problem? Sighing, he carefully picked up and inspected each piece in turn. They were well done, simple yet functional and perfectly fine for his tastes and needs. A smile wanted to appear but Kor’is fought it off. A part of him didn’t think he deserved such a gift but he mostly wondered what accepting it would mean. He didn’t want Cazan in his life no matter how hard she tried. Was this just another attempt to get him to open up or at least be nice?

He didn’t hate Cazan, not really. She had no common sense and there were quite a few things about her that drove him insane and her dragon was insufferable but there were worse people he could have been stuck with. Which was why he made a decision that somewhat surprised himself as he grabbed the items and walked over to Cazan.

“Thank you,” those weren’t words he was used to saying, especially to Cazan but her work deserved it. “But we were both a part of the fight. Give these to me when there’s actually a reason to,” like that she wanted to, not because she felt guilty and a gift would clear her conscience. That was a bit mean as Kor’is was starting to realise Cazan was just a nice person and the gesture likely wasn’t borne of guilt. Still, he held the items back out to the goldrider to take back.

Cazan settled back down onto the picnic blanket, grabbing her notebook to get back to work on the jacket design. It wasn't the most comfortable thing with how sore her knuckles were, but she'd found in the past that as long as she kept using her fingers they would at least not stiffen up too badly. Malvayth noticed Kor'is approaching first and gave her mate a small nudge so that she would look up too. Caz studied the bluerider curiously, wondering what he wanted. He didn't look as upset as she was used to, and that almost made her suspicious.

The thanks caught her off guard and at first she just blinked mutely up at him. He was thanking her... but also trying to give the gift back. His reasoning made Cazan shake her head. "Keep them, they were made specifically for you and that's reason enough." Maybe he can use them to make the art for me! Mal added to Cazan. She was normally not shy about trying to talk to other people, but her brother's rider was always so angry that she didn't want to risk making things worse. Caz nodded. "But if you want more of a reason then you could consider it an exchange for the painting you said you might do for Malvayth."

Hopefully that would be enough to convince Kor'is to keep the gifts. Just in case though, Caz set her pencil down on her notebook and watched the man for any sign he'd be upset by her rejection of his rejection. Malvayth watched them both quietly before asking her brother, Did he like them? Do you think they'll have another fight? She hoped not. Still, she cast a nervous glance over in Aradissicath's direction, wondering if she'd make them just sit if it happened again.

Kor’is frowned and furrowed his brows in confusion when his rejection was rejected and the reason for it. Cazan really was a little goody two-shoes. Why was she like this? Why did she have to keep trying to be nice, polite, and insist on being friends or whatever it was she was after? At least her second reason made more sense to him and it was easier to swallow than kindness so he nodded and walked back to his spot where he flopped onto his cushion.

I think he likes it and I don’t think there will be another fight, at least not today, Taith had his head cocked to the side as he watched Kor’is simply stare at the gift. He hated how hard it was for Kor’is to accept kindness at face value and wished he would allow hugs. Hugs made a lot of people happier and seemed to fix so many problems. Kor’is needed hugs and Taith was convinced he wanted them as well but didn’t know how to deal with that and locked it all away.

“Cazan, why do you insist on being kind and polite no matter what I do to get you to stop it?” He had to know. He kept thinking it while staring at the leather, unrolling and rolling it back up again as he envisioned his supplies tucked within, so he had to ask. He needed an answer and to see if he could find the hidden meaning behind the words. It would make everything so much easier if this was all a charade like he believed—wanted—it to be.

Oh good. Malvayth relaxed, glad that things weren't going to take another violent turn. She wanted to help more, but she wasn't sure how. She could at least give her brother snuggles and make sure that Lady knew she could play and cuddle with him too.

Cazan was back to her sketching, occasionally pausing to just flex her hands and set them down on the sands for some more soothing warmth. She didn't pay Kor'is any mind once he'd walked away, and was again surprised when she heard him speak. What sort of question was that? Considering how little he tried to engage with her in the first place she assumed it was not rhetorical and that he wanted a response.

"Why?" She drummed the pencil on her notebook as she tried to think. She wasn't sure she was really all that kind, she certainly thought unkind things about Kor'is frequently enough and had tried to generally avoid him in the past. It probably didn't matter what she thought, not if he was already trying to call her kind. That thought made her sad, she hadn't really done much for him except be polite and make a gift. "I don't know, it's easier I suppose? Easier to work with people when you're polite, easier to get things done, easier to deal with customers. I guess I could have been an ass sometimes, but that was usually more trouble than it was worth. And I guess I wasn't always polite, I still ended up in a few fights, and I suppose I can be a bit short when I'm at my workbench trying to focus."

Cazan studied him for a moment, wondering if she should ask why he insisted on being such an asshole. She decided against it, if he wanted to tell her he would probably bring it up himself. Instead she asked, "Does that make sense?"

It didn't really make sense to him but still he nodded. The more he thought about it, the more he could see how it was true for some people. Kindness, smiles, friendliness...some people were naturals at it. Sometimes he thought he could be and even was when around Aldra or even Tazikel when the Tillek lordling would visit Ista Hold. But there was too much in his past that made it impossible to be that open. Cazan may have found kindness easier but Kor'is found being an asshole and keeping a distance easier.

Maybe that was why he worried what accepting the gift meant. Mylorah had pestered him until one day he finally gave in and accepted her friendship. Sh'ran was an oddity but taking a sex drug on an island with a group of people and experimenting with the man was an oddity all around so it made sense. A few other people were tolerated and Kor'is knew Cazan had weaseled her way into that category with her persistence. He supposed he could accept that and not be as standoffish with her.

He likes the gift. Seems he likes it just as it is as well. Please let Cazan know since I don't think he will comment on it further. Taith was so proud of Kor'is for accepting the gift and using manners that he didn't mind the lack of follow up on whether he actually liked it or would use it. Surely Cazan would see the cavern she had managed to bridge as well and wouldn't be upset by it.

Cazan waited just a few more moments after Kor'is gave her the nod in case he had any other questions before she turned back to her notebook to make some more adjustments on the design. The conversation, if it could be called conversation, was probably the most pleasant one she'd ever had with Kor'is, which made a bit of sense, she supposed. It wouldn't have been the first time she'd punched a man and gotten along better with him afterwards. Her only real hope now was that the rest of their time on the sands would go along smoothly, or at least with less bickering.

Malvayth was ecstatic when her brother gave her the news and she eagerly passed it along. He likes it! And he thinks it's pretty just as it is. She didn't need a response to feel the surge of pride at a job well done. Maybe you can be friends now? Caz shrugged. I don't know. Maybe. Don't try to pester him about it either way. you can still be friends with your brother no matter how Kor'is and I feel. Mal supposed that was true enough and she was happy to settle for that. She gave her brother another nuzzle as she settled back down. Hopefully they can be friends too, like us. We're glad he likes it.
