Je'ler couldn't quite relate to the competition aspect of things, he'd become a vintner to try to have something with his father back when the man was alive and when he was kidnapped he'd actively done as little as possible to the point that impressing had been a shock. He nodded anyway though, trying to offer at least that token amount of support to the apprentice harper.
He took the instrument gingerly, almost worried that his rough hands would damage it, and studied it up close. "It is lovely, just like its maker." Je'ler gave her a sly wink, unable to help the flirt. He could feel Isper laughing at the cheesy line but ignored her for the moment and instead decided to give the instrument a strum, or at least tried to. With his left hand holding the neck in such a way as to partially mute some strings but not others, the sound he produced was discordant and almost hilariously sad.
He laughed, shaking his head. "It probably sounds a lot better in your hands. Here, I'll give this back to you and stick to what I actually know, booze and bad singing." He offered the instrument back to trade for his wineskin and took another sip as he leaned back in the chair. "I don't think I could ever own anything even half as fancy as that. I'd be terrified of breaking it."
