R’dare lit up at Aederyn’s excitement to go to the Weyr. He honestly preferred the openness of Katila but the Weyrs were still his home and he was proud of them and their lifestyles and couldn’t help but smile every time someone else expressed joy at the idea of going to one. Sure, his friend was now weyrfolk as well but she had only seen Fort Weyr but was always curious about their ways and eager to learn more. Seeing her jump at the chance to mingle with them whenever she could left R’dare glad R’dal had Searched the vibrant woman.
Though he was momentarily confused at what Aederyn was hesitantly asking about but then figured it had to be about clothes given she had been tugging at her dress. He hadn’t thought anything was wrong with her dress. Sure, it was simple but she looked lovely in it and wasn’t that the point? Well, he supposed clothes served a deeper purpose of warmth, protection, and comfort but they also served to give some form of identity and he supposed to help you show off and attract attention. He thought he was getting better at adjusting to the real world and how it worked as opposed to the tiny isolated village but sometimes it still seemed like he was floundering.
“Honestly, Weyr gathers are just an excuse to get together and drink and play in various ways. You can wear whatever you’re comfortable with. I should warn you that as the night progresses, some people start losing clothes for various reasons.” Sometimes it was a game of strip poker and sometimes people were a bit lusty and forgot where they were—or maybe they didn’t. Some of the people he now knew thanks to Casa probably did such things intentionally for the thrill.
A chuckle escaped at her excitement and then hesitance at her idea. He liked her enthusiasm about everything but he wished she’d stop doubting everything. “I don’t see why not. I know they have some races going on since I saw them on my way back down here and I’m sure there’s betting to go with it.” Unless they were just showing off how amazing their breed of horse was. He knew sometimes horses were for sale at some Gathers so maybe someone raised fast horses and there was a market for it—probably for travel for those that didn’t have a dragon.
“Did you want company for that? I’ll be completely useless at betting but I like to think I’m decent company all the same.”
