Edath trilled with excitement at the promise for another story and passed along the image to R'dal. They had seen shipfish from a distance when they darted out above the ocean but they never went that far out and the shipfish didn't seem to come in too close to the shore and they ducked under water when he got too close. They were elusive and Edath couldn't wait to hear about them! But it seemed he would have to as Aederyn told a sadder tale and he bumped his head lightly against her chest in comfort.
R'dal was frowning so hard he almost worried his face would get stuck that way. How could family treat each other like that? His own dad didn't know about him or have much to do with him for the first half of his life but even still, M'ris never actively sought to get rid of him or try to make him into something he wasn't. R'dal's own mind did that enough anyway. He kept seeing impressive big shoes to fill and panicked when he Impressed to a cute and chubby blue. But M'ris had said he was proud then and continued to be now.
Of course he also knew not everyone was lucky like that. He had friends who didn't even know who one or both of their parents were, so they definitely weren't wanted but it felt different in his mind. They hadn't grown up supported and loved like Aederyn had been only to have her family turn against her. He didn't interject since it already seemed like it was hard to confess everything, but R'dal vowed to take Aederyn into his friend family and make sure she knew she was loved and welcomed by them all.
"Hey!" R'dal chuckled his way out of his frown that thankfully didn't freeze his face. "I didn't? I thought I did..." he almost pouted again at how he forgot to tell Aederyn his amazing news. He could have sworn he had! Then again, the news had been tainted by a friend's breakdown and he supposed the news didn't seem that important anymore. But that had been so long ago, surely he had said something at the Hatching? He had even Searched a couple of the Candidates and been excited to watch them Stand. But it was Aederyn's first Hatching and he suspected that was overwhelming enough on its own to really notice conversations around her.
Still, why would D'hys bring up that he was a Search...oh! R'dal beamed his biggest smile at her when the unspoken question filled the space between them. "Edath marked you as Searchable the day we met you. Sorry I didn't tell you then. You were so proud of your craft and I didn't want to take you away from it or even make you question it. But we can definitely make it official! Even though we aren't out on a Search with a party but D'hys witnessing it might count and you came to the Weyr and asked so it's probably different rules..." R'dal trailed off as he thought about everything he was taught for the position, a finger tapping his chin.
