Kor'is.
Out of all of the names he and his dragon had bickered over, it was still the best one, though it was going to take some getting used to. He was used to Kordiavis or even Kordi but Kor'is? He'd get there, he didn't really have a choice. At least it wasn't K'di--which actually had been his original thought when it came to his honorific but he just wasn't feeling it anymore.
I liked it! But Kor'is is nicer. Taith exclaimed with his head still in the bucket of food.
Kor'is gave a noise of acknowledgement but didn't add to it since he already knew the dragon's stance on the choices. Anyway, he had a feeling his closest friends would still call him Kordi anyway so it wasn't like he was losing a piece of himself because of the pudge-master he was currently brushing sand and other gross things off of. He really didn't want to think about what he was cleaning off of the dragon so his name was a good place to focus.
That also meant he wasn't thinking about the fact that he had actually Impressed or how his mother would take the news or how one day he could end up batshit insane like her. He also wasn't thinking about how mere hours ago he saw Tazikel in the stands and that left him confused about how much interest he had in the lordling, especially after a kiss that had seemed like a very good idea at the time. It was a good thing he wasn't thinking about that since he was now celibate for the next several months.
What's 'celibate' mean? Taith had finished scarfing down his food and was now looking at Kor'is which made the man's stomach turn. He quickly took the cloth to the dragon's face to wipe away breakfast.
"It means I won't have time to be close to anyone because all of my time and attention will be spent on you." Not that he had many people he was close to or close to anyway but Kor'is preferred having that choice left in his own hands and not dictated by a dragon's needs.
When the earthquake started, he really didn't notice. The back of his mind pointed out that people were a lot louder than usual but Kor'is was busy washing a pale blue hide while lost in thought. It was only when Taith's excitement reached a new octave that Kor'is snapped back to attention and noticed the commotion. "How about we not get that loud right now?"
But the earth is shaking and a boy is injured! Kor'is frowned and stood up to see what was going on and oh shit, yeah, that was definitely an injured kid over there. And he thought Taith's muzzle was a bloody mess after feeding. Kor'is looked away before he saw anything in too much detail. If that kid resembled the dragon's food in any way, he'd never be able to look in a bucket again.
He sat back down after everything calmed down again and went back to caring for Taith and calling for another bucket as he felt his stomach rumble with needs that weren't his own. "Seriously? Maybe we shouldn't be going for seconds, kiddo."
By the time the Hatching ended, Kor'is was fine with his name and still happily ignoring everything else that was affected in his life by the change in status. He also had a fed and oiled hatchling that was trying not to snooze in his lap because Kor'is was being stubborn and refusing to head out yet. He had wanted to see if Mylorah Impressed and when she didn't, he knew she'd come rushing over to see him. She would probably congratulate him but he was still on the fence if that was the right word or if condolences were in order.
He should have known she'd bring Tazikel along, though.
Fuck.
