Since they were sitting on either side of him, T’ryn grabbed the legs of Cazan and Tazikel when the earthquake started. He almost didn’t notice it at first, but he did notice the dragons shifting and felt something was wrong with the way they were behaving. Then he felt it and he was back in the dorm in Katila with his hours’ old dragon when the landslide hit. It hit hard. He had been asleep and didn’t hear or even feel it coming but everything rumbled as the mud continued to flow and the building started to crumble around him. Them. He had been with N’mor trying to get B’jin’s damned guitar and he had no idea where any of his friends and classmates were, like Casa. He gave a haunted look to N’mor and then to Casa even as he continued to grip the knees of his holder friends.
Breathe, T’ryn. This is different and nothing like that night. Let it go, Syrendryth urged, voice soft and soothing and T’ryn closed his eyes as he took a deep breath and slowly let it out. It was different, he knew that, but it was hard not to link the events together. This was a lot of rumbling but not much else. Some loose stone but not boulders or trees and crumbling buildings.
A few more breaths and T’ryn opened his eyes and let go of his friends with a quietly whispered, “sorry,” but didn’t offer up anything further. He’d tell them later if they asked but for the moment, he wanted to forget the past and focus on the Hatching and what he missed during that moment of his. From the keening, he knew at least one dragonet hadn’t survived the ordeal and he saw a male being dragged away though he couldn’t see who it was or how bad it was. What he did see were faces of his friends, Mylorah, and Wynera. They all looked shocked but intact.
