Narinoa enjoyed the light banter and flirting he had with Sariel as they waited for the babes to make their appearances. It was helping his nerves tremendously to have someone there with him and distract him from his devastating thoughts. He wondered if that was a trait Healers had to possess but was thankful for it all the same.
The easy start to it all was helping him as well, as was seeing Kordiavis go to a dragon. He chuckled and wished that dragon all the best. He had picked one surly dude and that dragon had his work cut out for him if he wanted to make Kordiavis somewhat tolerable for more than five minutes.
But then, of course, all the good vibes backfired by making him too complacent. His guard had lowered and his reactions weren’t as quick as he would have liked when the squabble started and girls freaked out. He didn’t blame them but fuck, couldn’t they blindly run away with a bit more attention? He was jostled a bit and dodged another, leaving him further away from Sariel than he liked and when she went down, Narinoa panicked and tried to get to her.
He was too slow. He saw the blood immediately and the panic increased. Sariel was injured and the dragons were shrieking and… and the gold had Impressed to Sariel. He was still worried over the injury but Narinoa couldn’t help but smile at the sight. She looked so happy and wasn’t blaming anyone for the injury which was very much a Sariel thing to do. He wanted to help her off to the side when she got to her feet—stubborn woman—but it seemed the gold pair was determined to do it together so he respected that and watched them go and L’gan quickly run to them.
He owed her the biggest apology later on and probably forever. From his quick glimpse, he’d say that she’d have scars as a reminder of that day—like a dragon wasn’t enough of one—and every time he saw them, he’d be reminded of how he failed to keep her safe.
