The compliment Helyna gave Niath brought a flush of pride to Tala’s face. It was always nice to hear someone else praise her dragon, because while Tala knew she was right, she was also a little biased when it came to Niath. Other people saying it proved beyond doubt that it was true.
It had been a while since Tala had been able to spend much time with Helyna, and she was greatly enjoying the chance to do so again. They’d met as Candidates, shortly after Helyna had been Searched, but it hadn’t been too long until Helyna had Impressed, and then Tala Impressed a couple turns later, and both of them had had babies in between. Hard to find time for friends in other Weyrs, especially when one or the other of you couldn’t go between.
“Our timing was rather poor,” she said with a giggle when Helyna voiced much of what Tala had been thinking. “We’ll just have to make up for lost time, won’t we? How tragic, having to see each other more often.” Tala smiled at her, reaching forward to gently take Helyna’s hand. “I’ll be graduated in under three months, so we’ll have plenty of time to see each other.”
