"Your silence is what I like about you," D'hys wasn't bothered by F'drel's lack of response. F'drel was an observer, silently noticing details and overhearing things not meant for him because he was so easy to overlook. When he did speak, he knew how much to say to someone and who to report to with even more. His skills really were worth all the effort he had to put into the gift.
"As a thank you for your part in that little drama with B'jin and R'nd, as well as providing me with some surprising information involving another couple, I pulled some strings, filed a lot of paperwork, and spent a lot of marks all so I could say, congratulations, F'drel. Your sisters are free from Hold servitude and will be moving to Ista Weyr in two days as free weyrfolk. The Headwoman thinks the kitchen or laundry will be best but she's willing to let them try their hand in any other area, especially if any of them are good with a thread and needle."
D'hys watched F'drel closely for his reaction. The man was good at schooling his features to keep from showing too much emotion but this was something he wouldn't have been expecting and a slip up, even minute, had to show. It was tempting to further add to the shock by explaining how negotiations went with Jalazmar and Xyliah that involved finding suitable replacements for the servants they were losing. It would have been even more enjoyable to see F'drel react to the knowledge that his sisters were in Ista, instead of Fort where D'hys had more sway, because M'ris had been blackmailed thanks to his past hidden relationship with K'tir.
But he'd keep all of that to himself unless F'drel asked in just the right way for details. What he would share on the matter, was one more important detail. "Oh, and one of them can Stand as a Candidate. I forget which one is the one Edath was particularly fond of." He knew perfectly well which one it was since Zeianth also liked her. They never told anyone that Zeianth seemed to have an affinity for Searching as neither really wanted to spend the day poking at kids. But it did help back up Edath's claim and D'hys even told R'nya about the success, saying the kid could be a good Searchrider. He had been in a good mood that day, so what?
He pulled out a couple sheets of paper from his pocket and held them out for F'drel. "It's all in writing. Jalazmar agreeing the girls are free to move to the Weyr and M'ris letting them into Ista."
