“Oh, my Hummingbird… not you too,” Mylorah was torn between devastated and thrilled that another friend Impressed. It was the third time now that she had seen someone close to her Impress to one of the weak dragonets that terrified her for reasons she couldn’t keep thinking about. She wasn’t built to withstand the constant onslaught of fear and it didn’t help that a part of her still wanted to be happy. It didn’t bother her that she was becoming closer and closer to being the last one of their age group to Impress. She was fine with never being a dragonrider if that was what the cards had in store for her since she couldn’t decide what colour she most desired, so it wasn’t a sense of being left behind that had her frowning at her various friends around the area soothing their dragons while people checked them out.
She wished there was something she could do to help and as Thallyath roared in anger once more, Mylorah paled and looked around for what caused it. She saw someone had approached an egg—she missed what had been done to it—but saw the green slither out and she whimpered as she knew what was about to happen. No way would a fluke like Madiquel coming to the rescue in time happen again… and she was right. A few tears slid down her cheeks as she watched Sariel confirm what they all knew. She had a feeling Sariel wanted to help as well and perhaps hoped to find a pulse and could keep the dragon going, but Mylorah thought it best that the baby died when she did and didn’t take anyone with her. Oh how she hated herself for thinking that!
When the last egg was deemed a dud, Mylorah was conflicted yet again. She wanted to check on Casa and Nerreh but she wanted to run around to each friend that Impressed but she also wanted to run to Tazikel and apologise for him seeing everything while also showing him how happy she was to see him again. Instead she turned back around in Kordiavis’ arms to hug him once more as she thought about what to do now that it was all over.
Casa would have people around her for a while. Whether they were other friends checking in or more official visits like Ameris, M’ris, or other Weyrleaders. She would definitely catch up with her soon, but she’d give her some space to breathe and deal with everyone else first. Nerreh would probably run for the door and hide again. She felt so bad for him. Nerreh didn’t ask for any of this and she’d make sure he knew not everyone blamed him or Faxxonth either. But she’d give them some space first. Perhaps jump Nerreh at a meal or force a meal upon her friend if he didn’t turn up. She knew where Nerreh lived and wasn’t afraid to barge in if needed!
Her friends with their new lifemates needed time to adjust. They would have Healers around them for a bit and eventually exhaustion would hit. She could try to sneak in and give them each a hug before they were spirited away but anything longer would have to wait. So that’s what she decided to do. She would go congratulate each of the three new Weyrlings and then go and see Tazikel. She was embarrassed as all get out about her breakdowns and what he had witnessed with the Hatching but she couldn’t deny how excited she was to see him again and really, really wanted to kiss that man again. She wondered if she was picking up Misharan’s coping mechanism of sex fixes everything but didn’t care. There was a lot to process from the Hatching and she would later. She had a guest to entertain since she was the one who invited Tazikel to Ista Weyr.
But first she gave Kordiavis a kiss to his cheek and stepped back, holding his hands for a moment. “You’re a good man. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. I’d hate to ruin the surprise for everyone else when they eventually find out.” She smiled and dashed off to try her luck at getting to Misharan to give him a hug and learn his new name—though he’d always be Mimi to her.
