He didn’t know Jajojin well but he knew enough to know that his daughter Impressing to a sickly dragon that probably shouldn’t have been born wasn’t going to sit well. R’vi rubbed his temples as he felt a headache coming from how horrible everything was about the Hatching. It was one thing to see the poor things hatch and die, it was another to see them actually Impress. Those poor kids had their work cut out for them with just keeping the things alive and who knew when they could actually start their proper weyrling training if they did survive.
Sariel’s voice rang surprisingly loud given how soft spoken she was and R’vi looked up and frowned when he saw the tiny Candidate approach Beckitt. She was determined, which wasn’t surprising from what little he did know about her, but he had a feeling she was going to be reckless as well, which did seem surprising.
“Sariel, back down! Please. It’s not worth it!” He stood as he shouted down to her both to help be heard and so she could find him if she wanted to. Likely to glare or flip him off but he didn’t care. All R’vi could think about was the time Indivara was impatient waiting for the gold egg to hatch so she kicked it and the very dead contents spilled out everywhere. If Sariel and Beckitt were going to do something stupid like that, they didn’t know what they were in for. At least one of those eggs had to be a dud given it hadn’t so much as rattled since he’d been there so it wouldn’t be a pretty sight if they cracked it open.
The other might have a living dragon in it but for how long? Was it worth risking it Impressing to someone? It was almost better if it died in the egg. Fuck but he felt horrible for thinking that but they just weren’t strong enough to survive and he didn’t want some kid to have their brain scrambled because of it.
Besides, if they approached the eggs like he knew they were going to do, they’d both be banned from the Sands at all three Weyrs for who knew how long. No one wanted troublemakers out there where their antics could risk injuring someone else. How he avoided getting banned would always be a mystery but he supposed he behaved well enough out there where it mattered more than the mischief he got into out in the Weyr.
