C’dhin felt like a jerk when he showed up minutes before the first egg cracked. He hadn’t intended to be late since he had told Misharan that of course he would be there. What did he care about traditions and who was supposed to win golds? New dragons were the important thing and he wasn’t going to protest a Hatching and miss a friend Impressing because he didn’t like the sire. But he’d almost missed it anyway because he was having a father-daughter day out in a valley that had a river for them to play in with Coroth and eat under a little collection of trees. It had been a nice trip but panic set in when they returned to Telgar and heard news came a while ago about Ista’s Hatching starting.
As quick as he could, he headed out and quietly entered the grounds and found a seat just before the first dragonet appeared… and died. That wasn’t what he expected and he heard Coroth amongst those that keened for the loss. She was a sassy girl but she still respected life and C’dhin ached for her. But that feeling didn’t have long to latch hold of him as another egg suddenly fell away to reveal a dark hatchling that was heading right for Misharan and his friends.
C’dhin held his breath… and stood up with a shout of joy when he saw Misharan bend down and hug the tiny male. He saw a lot of varying reactions from Candidates and heard some around him in the stands but C’dhin was happy for his friend and even happier that Misharan didn’t get green. He didn’t wish the life on anyone and while he thought Misharan was now a bluerider, he couldn’t say for certainty from where he stood. But he’d find out later! No way was he leaving without congratulating Misharan, and teasing him about how they’d be in mourning for the next little while as they’d have to go without sex. Well, C’dhin could still have sex but Misharan was going to have a tough drought ahead of him!
